Actually, I'm more disenfranchised with colledge football/basketball because the players can't take one red penny, but the colledges themselves can take millions and that is bullshit.

I agree with that too, all the big time NCAA Hoops/Football schools rake in the cash while the player get nothing really in return except maybe a free education (Scholarships, etc.) and there are thousands upon thousands of students who cannot afford to goto school but could with a little help from all the excess $$$ that these schools make...........

While I agree that players are overpaid, you also have to keep in mind they are entertainers too, not just athletes.

Is A-Rod making $ 20 million a year any worse than one of the actors in Hollywood making $ 20 million for 2 months of film shoots...?

Not really, the difference is the Actor has to actually COMPLETE the film to get paid, whilst these Pro Athletes have sooooooooo much money guaranteed just to sign the line.

No doubt they are entertainers and the owners shouldn't necessarily be allowed to make money hand over fist, but c'mon One Player on ANY team making $10 Million (heck $5 million) to play a sport is just a little bit greedy. The owners are fools for paying them that much and we are fools for supporting the market for those sports. It's not a sport anymore (NBA, NFL, MLB) is all about Business, not much fun left in those leagues.

Wasn't the last time the Giants were in the World Series, there was a huge earthquake?

Seems like bad luck to have San Fran and LA in the World Series.

Just an FYI...NFL contracts are not guarenteed, if the player is hurt they are shit out of luck.

And for the record, it's been all about business for the last 100 years, they've just done a good job of disguising it as 'a game'.

That being said, I'd agree that nobody short of the guy who invents the cure for cancer should make that kind of money. But I'll stick to my argument that athletes are singled out because everyone is under the impression, "How can they get paid so much for just a stupid game."

Your correct, not ALL NFL/MLB/NBA contracts are 100% guaranteed..........but they do have quite a huge sum (most of the time) that is guaranteed. I mean if I get hurt and can't work for an extended period, I DON'T GET PAID unless I have insurance, etc..........

Well it's always been a business, duh. The point I'm getting at is NOW it's more about business than the actual sport. Hey, the owners are all entitled to make money, the players are entitled to make money ~ but will they continue this saga until ONLY those who are very well to do can Attend a Game/Watch a game/Afford a game? I mean it ain't cheap taking a family of four to any NFL/NBA/MLB game and I don't make bad $$.

Athletes are singled out because they cry foul when they aren't making $200 bazillion dollars whilst teachers, Policeman, Fireman, etc. go underpaid and underappreciated (most of the time anyways........)

LOL

But their chances of keeping Sammy don't look good.

I will eat my Cubs windbreaker if Sosa leaves the Cubs. No one will take on his contract, and he wouldn't be worshipped anywhere like he is in Chicago.

Valid points Chuckus. The part that irritates me is:

* During the MLB strike of 1994, Barry Bonds trying to have his child support payments lowered...guess it was putting a burden on his ability to buy new cars, houses, clothes, etc.

* Patrick Ewing stating that "NBA players need to get paid alot of money...we spend alot." Great logic Patrick, now go put away your Dionne Warwick costume.

Oh come on. Those guys get paid, just not as well as pros.

It is quite sad, I wish my knees hadn't fallen apart after 16 years of soccer, basketball and football.............I would have liked to have the opportunity to make the amount of money they do in One Year, even at League minimum, and contribute to my community and give back more than I do now.

Soon Pro Sports will be for Elitist only and..........then there will be nothing until someone starts up a new batch of "sports" for Professionals.

Sad really, quite sad.

Okay so just for fun lets see what you literoticans think or if you guys even care about the world series this year.

You forgot the "They should have gone on strike so we don't have to put up with the World Series," option.

Your right they do, but not proportinately like the Pro's or "out in the open"........that's why they have "booster" clubs and Alumni associations...........to pay athletes to "compete" for their schools.

Baseball is such a great game. It has more strategy than any other of the major sports out there. The problem with baseball is that it doesn't play well on TV. The only way to see all that is going on is by actually going to a game.

Exactly!!!

btw.. G-men in 7 ... but I'm only watching when hockey isn't on...

I'm hoping to see Anaheim win the Series. Because, there the sentimental favorite. But, do I think the'll win? No.

It's Anaheim, not L.A..... there is a difference (not much, but still its a difference) and the Giants were playing Oakland... the quake was caused by all the East Bay'ers rushing over the bridge... I am sure that can be scientifically proven... ;)
