Most Influential Writer

I nominate the poet smithpeter, whose artistic vision remains fresh across the hundreds of poems he has posted at Literotica. smithpeter sees poetry everywhere he looks, as the following examples show. His ability to turn the world upside-down and see new realities with his words has influenced countless writers on this site, myself among them.

excepted from Radon Daughters
Old saying:
Do unto yourself
As you would have others
Do unto yourself

Faux sisters so in love with love
So in love with spring lovers
Pondering on the lovers coloring
Me outside the lines with spoons
And butter knives slapping sugar packets
Cross table, ashtray as lone player marooned

Introductions, Peter to the Radon Daughters in fishnet
Ready to kiss with vodka gin lips red and blue tint
So lovely in the neon of knight attraction
Attraction so dimly lit that cheekbones rose
Like models of popular distress
Needing rescue, white horse and long lance poised
Tucked at the ready

excerpted from Brown

The secret of transport is alive in his brownness, his shorts.
Another dot to dot matrix.
"in sleet and slush such no snooze nor sentiment will sustain this
delivery more than the smile that one may never witness."

All this for just a wrap of poems that
press face to face in the dark till liberated,
spread for reading and looking at each other.
A morsel of art in word. Simple thought,
soft affection from a friend up the dusty road.

Brown returns down his route unpaved
by thought.
What if words caught sight
of each other?

excerpted from Nuther Gunner

my guns come against yours
we compare caliper
barrel and velocity
target practice
enjoy the outdoors
the inner doors
the river warm

hey, I thought I was going to
be spreading you!
hey, do that again!
gun me like that six
more times

More triggers are not needed
tat a tat a rat a tat
till you scream
or just sigh

quiet now
let the wind of window
compete with my breath
and your sweet churn

do that dream thing
take me with you

In this category, please nominate the poet who affected you the most in 2002. Whose poems did you seek out and enjoy? Who made laugh/cry/etc.?

Author must be an active Literotica author who submitted poems during the year 2002.

One nomination per member, please.

My Nomination

is for the incomparable Wicked Eve for the following reasons:

1. She writes wonderful poems, is prolific, and she is consistently good--I have experienced the full range of emotions reading her work (just um not in the same poem ;)); furthermore some of her poems just blow me away they are so good--and she is equally good across poetic forms.

2. She is the most stalwart supporter of poets and poetry in general at lit whom I've met (and that is saying something because there are some terrific folk here). Just about everyone who requests a critique can be assured of a detailed, thoughtful response from her. She has given an enormous amount of her time to the poetry board (and don't tell her I told, but she does a lot more helping and reviewing in emails with people here who ask for her help).

3. She is gracious and creative in finding ways to bring poets together to learn from each other: she hosts contests; she kept the "poets'" thread alive when no one else had the time or inclination to do so.

4. She does all of the above with grace, kindness, and a wonderful sense of humor that lives up to her name!

In my heart, she already won! You go, Eve! :rose:

Is thread Hijacking allowed? ;)

Most influentual Poet: Wicked Eve/Lauren Hynde

Most Inspiring A/V : JUDO
Most Intelectual: Senna Jawa
Funniest little Dog on the Net: Karma Dog
Most helpful angel at Lit: Angeline

Most influential poet nomination

I love Angeline, and I think she knows it. I respect Judo whose accumen is sought by all, and not just to see her AV's. Wicked Eve and Lauren are wonderful, and so are others, but the one that moves my heart and soul, and makes me wonder where is my permanent abode, is Silken_dreammaid, whose words carry me so. (trite but true.)

Never have I seen such wonderful evocations of life in words, and usually so sublime (forgive the additional trite word, yet it's true, too).

My respect is for all, but my poetic heart has been stolen by Silken_dreammaid.

I nominate Svenskaflicka - I love her poetry. Some of her stuff makes me laugh out loud, and not much does that any more.

Hope you keep submitting poetry, Svenska = ) I look forward to it.

A Mother's Nightmare

My darling daughter Hanna turned 5 the other day.
She asked if she could dress as a big girl now, and I told her it was OK.
But as I put the frosting upon her birthday cake,
she came out from the bathroom; and I cried: "for goodness' sake!"

She'd stuffed my bra wth rolled-up socks,
and used plenty of spray to tame her locks.
She staggered around in my high-heeled shoes;
a thong revealed a non-existant caboose.

Her tummy was bare, and with the warpaint one almost mistook her
for a 4 feet tall, skinny, little hooker.
Then she opened her mouth and summoned my fears:
-"Look, mum! I look just like Britney Spears!"

A Vote for Senna

I would nominate Senna Jawa as the most influential poet. Not just for his challenging poetry, but because he has a certain manner of stimulating conversation on the poetry board. Whether you like him or not, (and few do at first) his opinions are always of value even when he irritates just to get the reader's attention. S.J. makes people think, and if they get angry enough to start trying to analyze his work, looking for flaws, they will find things that can improve their own efforts. They will most likely come to appreciate the quality of his poetry as well. Senna Jawa is an acquired taste and not the easiest poet to understand. However he has great influence on the Lit. board. One does not have to be the best liked to be the most influential.

Regards,                       Rybka

Although I'm sure that he won't pay the least bit of attention to this thread, I nominate smithpeter. There are other poets whose poetry I enjoy nearly as much, and who have influenced the way I write, but smithpeter's genius has affected the way I view the world. smithpeter sees poetry in even the mundane. He writes of beauty with real appreciation, and he is funnier than one might expect. Plus, he wrote a poem for me.

smithpeter is one of the true undiscovered geniuses.

To the regulars on the poetry board:

Wish I could choose more than one. Angeline is one poet who really supports us all on the board and her poetry is incredible. I love Judo and Lauren's Poetry and what they bring to the board. Senna is the brains behind the operation. ;) What would we do without Rybka and Karmadog! And Land really grew on us. :) And there are others we all love when they drop in and visit. I'd love to see more of KM, Risia, Drake and Perky. And you too Kat! And how can I forget OT and Homer! Oh yeah, lickmyboot, Writerdom, and some new poets that have joined us. I know there are more influential poets who should have an award...

But there is only one I can nominate and that's smithpeter and he already knows why. sp, it's for all those reasons that I tell you time and time again. If you want, I'll tell you again tonight.

The only one I can nominate is Wicked Eve. Not only does she write fabulous poetry, she also gives a lot of her time and effort on the boards toward making other poets successful. She critiques fairly without cutting and she poses contests. She makes poetry fun for others. She's been a real versatile poet and friend to poets.

I would like to give a nod to Angeline--who should also be nominated but she explicitly said she didn't want to be. She's just as much a poet's poet as WE is.

Adding another name to the ranks....

There are a lot of (obviously) talented poets mentioned here, all of which I would certainly second to the nomination. But I would also like to include "Sweetsubsara" to those nominated. I have enjoyed her poetry, the humor and fun she puts into them. It's difficult enough trying to write a story. It's harder still to tell a story in a poem.

Sweetsubsara does a wonderful job doing this.

I remain,

eh hem....

Some folks have posted poetry from those poets they wished to nominate. I'd like to post, instead, a poem that said poet inspired:

keyboard probes
deep spaces
between key location
of distant thoughts
iwasliftedbytheveryidea
b                           y
t hes pace be twee nus

The most influential deserves to be the one who's influenced, as such, I nominate Angeline.

There are four poets that deserve this nomination above all others. Smithpeter, for his fantastic poetry, unravelling new ways of looking at the world around us almost every day; WickedEve, for her incessant support shown in the poetry board, always finding new ways to stirr the poetic juices of our little community; Angeline, for being a wonderful poet, a dedicated teacher, an even better friend; and JUDO, for all of the above. Her poetry never fails to amaze, her dedication to the poetry board is unparalleled, and with her stories, she brings a little of poetry to the rest of Lit.

Angeline, smithpeter and WickedEve have already been named, so I can only nominate JUDO.

I nominate Lauren

I don't spend much time on the poetry forum, but I do enjoy reading the poetry on Lit. There were several poets that influenced me in 2002, particularly Pagan Angel, Ravenloft, REDWAVE, KillerMuffin, and Lauren.Hynde.

I really dislike having to chose between them, but since Lauren's poetry inspired me to write a poem about her, I guess I'd have to say she influenced my poetry the most.

There are so many great poets here. Surprisingly so.

JUDO, Angeline and WickedEve have helped me in my quest to better my writing, as well as helped me look at others' writings in a deeper, more critical way.

But as far as direct influence on my writing and on my view of the world, I have to nominate smithpeter.

Blue Dolphin

Not only is he a wonderful poet who places his heart into his work, but he is also a gentleman.
