I've started a story about a woman who is a porn actress and I can't figure what catagory to put it in. It contains all different kinds of sex scenes and the plot, what there is of it, doesn't seem to fit a catagory. Going by the sex scenes, it could fit in any number of catagories. Any ideas where it should go?

Second question, I have an idea for a story about the end of the world. Always a fascinating subject with me. Anyway, as I was going through it in my head I realized that it would just be darn depressing. I'm not sure people would like something of that nature no matter what kind of sex was in it. Do you think it would be too dark?

Erotic Couplings is the catchall category for stories that don't fit anywhere else.

Novels and Novellas is also a catchall category but for longer stories witha plot.

Since yours has a plot and apparently is longer than average, I'd consider Novels and Novellas.

Some of us Science Fiction Fans like post-apocalyptic fiction -- with or without sex. They may be depressing but they make us think about what it takes to survive commfortably and glad that the world isn't about to end.

First question already answered by WH. I'd like to add that if you still arent' sure, add a note in the notes field while submitting to Laurel and she will choose a category for you.

Second - I have a dark story on Lit. Doesn't do too well at the ratings. In fact, lowest rated among all of mine. If you care about ratings, then I guess you submit it elsewhere if you don't have much sex in it. If you just want to put it out for people to read, then it will fit. Critical appreciation but no Hs. :)

Question 2: Definitely write it, I'm actually very interested in stories that have quite a different approach to put some erotic in it. Please try it and let us know when it's done.

Not at all. The end of the world was a popular attraction in "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe." (Douglass Adams.) There was time travel, though (there will be time travel, though?) so it wasn't the end exactly. Everyone went home after the dinner show, which was a Vegas-style extravaganza of which the highlight was the actual end of the world.

Serioiusly, why not have the world begin again at the end of your story? I'm assuming you mean the end of all things, collapse of the universe back into itself; the big un-bang. If you mean the end of life on earth, an apololypse sort of thing, then yes, that's always depressing.

Edited to add: There's a peaceful, poetic end of the world in the book, Einstein's Dreams. A chapter about a theory of time in which there is a definite end to it, the date of which has always been known to everyone; and what our lives would be like in the remaining days if we knew this was all any of us had left. People have adulterous affairs without guilt; bakers give away bread to use up their supplies. Moments before the end, an entire town is gathered in the town square, hundreds of people, all holding hands. They become aware that sounds are growing fainter, edges softer, colors blurred. Still holding hands and waiting together to see what waits - if anything waits - at the end of time, they fade together, and this "circle of pinkness and life" is the last thing of which any of them are aware.

2nd question End of the world story

I also find the possable endings for this world fasinating and think if it is well written then it can be a great sucess.
If it gets really dark you could always turn it in to a horror.
Stephen King seams to find pleanty people to read his books.

The incomperable Wh got the first one.

As to the second dark is not neccissarily bad. All of the cyberpunk types stories are about a dark future, but they seem to do well. So write it if the story is in you. Of course fantasy/sci-fi gets few reads so don't expect it to bcome an instant chart topper :)
