I have just passed 100k views on my stories 🎉
A convenient moment to look at some statistics:
5 stories
100k views
12 comments - 0,012%
621 votes - 0,621%
76 favourites - 0,076%
Average rating = 4,516

Here on the forum I've seen people mention they can see how people have voted. How many 1,2,3,4, or 5 stars. Where do you find that?
How do these stats compare to your stories?

I know those numbers don't really mean anything and aren't particularly useful, but I'm a bit of a nerd. I like stats, I like graphs. It's just for fun.

Nowhere from the site. You have to watch your votes roll in, and figure it out for yourself.

Well done.

This isn’t meant to be a negative, or telling you what to do. But there is a thread for this kind of stuff. You just might get more acknowledgment there 😊.

Well done again.

And that thread went sideways in a heartbeat. I did count my views once a while back. My sister who has written a couple texts claims she wrote some romance stories and then came back and said one of her stories was picked up for an 'anthology' somewhere. She began to brag about how well she did.
I counted my stories, views and overall percentage approval but by then my anger had subsided and I let it go.

Formula for determining votes for a story:

(Rating) x (# of Votes) = (X1 x 1) + (X2 x 2) + (X3 x 3) + (X4 x 4) + (X5 x 5) where X1 + X2 + X3 + X4 + X5 = (# of Votes)

Example:

Rating = 4.75
# of Votes = 8

Answer can be: 2 x 4 + 6 x 5 or 1 x 3 + 7 x 5

The reason there can be two different answers is because you have 5 variables but only two equations to find the answer.
1. (Rating) x (# of Votes) = (X1 x 1) + (X2 x 2) + (X3 x 3) + (X4 x 4) + (X5 x 5)
2. X1 + X2 + X3 + X4 + X5 = (# of Votes)

In order to get an exact answer, you would need four equations to solve for the 5 variables. Unfortunately, we don't have those other two equations. Even then, there would still be uncertainty because of the sweeps performed periodically to remove invalid votes.

What is the X variable?

I just had my first story posted in more than 10 years today. Congrats on the longevity.

Congratulations - good job and keep going!

Not sure that is strictly true as they are Diophantine Equations.

Then math was never my strong suit.

Em
Math isn't my strong suit either.

I was rather inelegantly stating that it has to be a Diophantine equation because we don't have enough information (i.e., equations) to allow us to collapse the values of all five variables down to one specific answer. We only have six equations to constrain the values of X1, X2, X3, X4, and X5 (i.e., X1+X2+X3+X4+X5=(# of Votes), X1 >= 0, X2 >= 0, X3 >= 0, X4 >= 0, and X5 >= 0).

That would work normally. But… the fact that the solutions are restricted to integers may sometimes allow greater progress to be made. Getting out of my depth, I might message my friend 😬.
