10 worst TV shows

I didn't like how Archie treated Edith...or anyone else as a matter of fact.

Like it or not, that is part of why the show was so popular. A great many WWC men identified with Archie. Which certainly was not what the producers intended -- they were trying to show the utter moral vacuity of Archie's kind.

I recall reading some reviews of Joe -- a lot of the educated liberal reviewers were absolutely astonished by how many viewers sympathized with Joe, who was not intended as a sympathetic character. (You might remember the lead actor who played the hippie-hating WWC scumbag Joe, Peter Boyle, because he also played the monster in Young Frankenstein. Far less of a monster than Joe.)

That is very sadly true.

Well, it's kinda hard to imagine any alternative history in which television was invented, and didn't lead to mostly intellectually vacuous content. Human condition, y'know. In ancient civilizations, even the best of them, chariot races and gladiatorial combat was about as good as it got -- Greek theater only ever appealed to minorities.

that's funny, because that was why i stopped watching that show. she was the only character i liked. and the only sane one.

has anyone nominated 'hee haw'?

There has already been a 10 best thread (which I replied to, with the right answer, of course. :) ), so I thought a 10 worst thread was appropriate.

A couple of guidelines:

1. Any show nominated should have been on for at least one season.
2. Any show nominated should be bad, not just one that someone dislikes.

I'll start it off -

Love Boat
A-Team
Knight Rider
(There were a lot of popular but bad shows in the early 1980s).

Baywatch (The Hoff was in many bad shows)

How I Met Your Mother (never understood why this was called a comedy)
Renegade
Enterprise (Actually, I didn't think the show was that bad. Then the finale happened. Worst ep of any show, ever.)

Lost
Heroes
Supermarket Sweep

This is a ridiculous list when shows like My Mother The Car, Pink Lady and Jeff, Supertrain, Rules of Engagement, Bleep My dad Says, all existed.

And Lost? Come on.

i'm fairly certain that most people don't know remember pink lady and jeff. it was just before my time, but i was vaguely aware of it thanks to a couple references on mystery science theater 3000. when i did finally decide to figure out what the fuck it was it was hard to find anything real beyond a couple clips on youtube that just made it look like a slightly shittier than average variety show.

anyway, apparently there are full episodes on youtube right now for some reason.

the lawrence welk show

family affair

bowling for dollars (anyone remember that?)

I remember bowling for dollars. My dad watched it every night. When I was a kid, I sent in a postcard to try to be the one that got the matching dollars. Never got picked tho.

And I agree on Lawrence welk. That show fucked up many a Saturday night of bad tv options (all of which were better than Lawrence welk, however)

Other than Rules of Engagement, all the shows you listed failed to meet the more than one season criteria. If we were going to have shows that were that short-lived, I would also have to add Galactica 1980 - when the creative high point of a show is flying motorcycles that shoot lasers that show has problems.

Serious problems.

On the other hand, I'm not disputing that ROE sucked. Big time.
