Sorry to disappoint everyone, but this thread is actually about the movie, "10 Things I Hate About You", and not a diatribe against some mindless would-be BBer. So....

Anyways, "10 Things I Hate About You" has been showing on the Starz 2 channel this week (for those of you not familiar, Starz 2 shows the same fucking 4 movies over and over and at the same times every damn day for a week... the cheap bastards)...and so every night when I get off the computer and turn on the TV, there it's been. So I think I've watched it about 8 times this week (it's also on when I get up in the afternoon - my wife has been watching it too) - and I've decided that it's a pretty damn good movie.

I know I've talked before about how shitty '90s teen movies were ("American Pie", "Can't Hardly Wait", etc...), but I finally think I've found something out of the '90s that can hold it's own with the GREAT JOHN HUGHES..(Don't say a word, Roger, damn you...Reagan's Mouthpiece indeed!!). I know, I know, I can't believe I'm saying that, either.

And a kick ass soundtrack, too. The damn Letters to Cleo cover of Nick Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind" has been driving me nuts all week... can't seem to get the damn song out of my head.

Anyways... Anyone else seen this flick? What did ya'all think?

Fucking cable movie channels! I get 7 channels of HBO and they're all showing the Die Hard trilogy morning, noon, and night. How much Bruce Willis in torn & dirtied wifebeaters running from explosions does one need?

Haven't seen the movie, but have seen the promos. Now I'll have to rent it so I can argue with you. :)

You getting nervous about that September 31st show already, Hurley?

It's a splendid movie. And I think Julia Stiles is a superb actress. I've watched the movie for about 7 times already and I'm still excited about it.
I'd say it's a funny movie. Catchy script, beautiful actors/tresses and a simple yet interesting plot. And oh, did I mention romantic?
I LOVE the movie!!!! ;)
Oh yes, the soundtrack is fantastic too.

Totally with you on this one Lasher. I've only seen it once, so I'm by no means an expert, but I loved the movie. I mean I seriously loved it! Great script, great storyline, well acted cast (The male lead - Heath Ledger - is a top bloke. He's Perth born and I've met him on a few occasions.) and if you can't get a laugh out of it no matter what your age, there is something wrong.

Just in case you weren't aware, it's actually an adaption of "The Taming of the Shrew" which explains the storyline, but in case that's just turned you off, don't let it. It is a fantasic movie, and I give it a 10. Piss funny, and great all reound.

As the genre goes, "10..." was not bad. With the exception of the male lead, the characters actually looked and acted like high school students. The plot did not entirely neglect the secondary characters, and the pacing allowed for greater development than is common in teen romantic comedies. The Shakespearean connection is somewhat dubious, but at least that means it won't supplant the original as the definitive version of the story in the minds of its audience.

For those familiar with the Seattle-Tacoma area, there were a couple of incongruous moments (such as the goofy paint gun set at the Gasworks, or the fact that the sun was always shining). It also had its share of standard movie irritations (could "Club Skunk" have been any less believable with its daylight illumination and "Brady Bunch" affirming vibe?), but avoided most of the cliches of comparable movies.

My only real quibble is how mysteriously powerful the lead male was. It was distracting and unnecessary when, for example, he was recognized by the bartender at the girl club, or when he "called in a favor" to get a major-label band at the prom. I suppose wish fulfillment is part of the fantasy, but I think the movie would have worked fine without it.

My girlfriend and I were wondering, though, about how many high school freshmen wear sport jackets to parties, or high-style separates -- in Tacoma. Maybe things are a bit more progressive these days, but somehow I think that they are still more inclined towards Timberlines and plaid flannel. I suppose we should be grateful they weren't dressed like albino rappers.

I still prefer less glossy productions, but if your are trapped on Starz, you could do worse than watch this 3.75 times (cumulative over about a dozen arbitrary starting-point viewings, if you're like the rest of us).
