10 Reasons to Hate Facebook

Hubby and I were beginning to wonder if we were the only ones not on facebook

Nope never been on it. And I swear to God I am going to kill the next asshole in the office who made a mistake because he was playing Farmville instead of paying attention.

Are you kidding?

Yeah, like I need another way to waste time and disclose information for creeps or the goddamn marketeers to exploit. And people do this voluntarily?

The obvious manipulation is an insult to my intelligence. The additional evidence that people are so gullible and suggestible is downright scary.

It is monumentally stupid— don't get me started on the ultimate measure of vapidity: twitter. Privacy is rapidly becoming one of life's great luxuries.

Everyone I know who went on Facebook got contacted and "friended" to everyone they never talked to in high school... Sooner or later, often times sooner, you remember why you didn't talk to them then.

You just grow apart from way back when you weren't together. Hmmm... If you read that slowly, and let some sadly romantic music roll through your mind, distracting you from what it actually says, it almost sounds meaningful.

More importantly, you can't hide from them. Facebook doesn't let you use non-real sounding pseudonyms; like: "Freud's Handcuffs Loveathon"... So much for realism.

No but it does allow pen names.

And then people wonder why I don't want pictures of my infant son on their facebook pages. *facepalm*

A thought to consider... Although I will say this: I think most people on Facebook are looking for some sort of self-verification. This is how memorable I am. If they find me as Quiet_Cool, they're looking for the real me.

Facebook for me is just somewhere to keep in touch with family and some old friends. Twitter and Lit is where I do my thang!

You have that round the wrong way don't you? ;)

Ha! I was sort of on a fishing expedition. But I've actually found FB to be entertaining and have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. Don't care to hear about what people are doing second by second though.

But I honestly don't get twitter in most ways. Though there is some fun stuff...did I read about White Girl Problems here? It's hilarious, and that's the best use of the twitter mini-blogging that I can see. Who cares about Ashton Kutcher commenting on the Casey Anthony trial. But get ready for the upcoming presidential election.

You just aren't using Twitter right - forget the Slebz and the 'I had toast for breakfast' brigade - get your news there!

The former is long done.

But news in 140 characters - headlines with links to articles? I could see that...not much different from RSS feeds or ticker tapes at the bottom of the CNN TV screen.

Not if you tell them you're an author and the real you doesn't really exist. I use my account to promote a few of my eBooks and keep in touch with my grandkids.

One of the worst things about facebook is that it's trained up a small cadre of idiots who buy perfectly good websites that function quite well as they are-- then then try to turn them into facebook.

Etsy is one. Social networking and commerce don't mix all that well.

And some poor schlub thought buying fandom sites would be easy money untill he ran into the double pronged sword of lord of the ring fans-- who hate interlopers like fuckall and say so in Old English stanzas-- AND the Tolkien Estate which will NEVER EVER allow anyone to make money off of LOTR parody if it can help it.

Heh. I've a friend who is raving about google + Quit Facebook and swears he'll never go back.

Texting, Facebook, twitter and ever present cell phones. Doesn't anyone ever just want to be alone anymore?

I mean it seems like no one ever just wants any quiet time to themselves.

I also reiterate another posters point about people from years ago finding you. If I wanted to stay in touch I would have.

I have always valued my quiet time but now as a new mom it is at a premium and guarded tooth and nail.

I also have certain people I do not feel the need to keep in touch with. If someone isn't valuable enough to me to at least write an email if not an actual *GASP* pen and paper, cursive written letter they don't ned to know about my comings and goings at all.

I am very grateful for the facebook network, actually. It's gotten me in touch with people whom I loved dearly and thought had been lost forever.

Our reunions haven't always turned out to be for the best-- but closure is a good feeling, and so are new beginnings.

My foster boy is in Paris right now, and this is how I can enjoy his adventures. I have two grandkids (step grandkids) in Belgium, this is how I watch them grow up. My foster girl just spend nearly a month up in NocCal on a film set. facebook is really great for those things.
