Sources: Seattle Seahawks agree to trade QB

Russell Wilson to Denver Broncos, get three players, picks

That's a helluva start to the season.
After weeks of negotiations, in one of the biggest trades in NFL history, the Denver Broncos have agreed to send a significant package of players and draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson, sources told ESPN.

The Broncos have agreed to trade quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth-round pick to the Seahawks for Wilson and a fourth-round pick, sources said.

The trade gives Denver the quarterback it has sought since Peyton Manning retired, and it gives Seattle a foundation on which to rebuild without the quarterback who led the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl title.

Well, I'm kind of glad, as a 49ers fan, that Wilson is gone- but if I were a Seahawks fan I'd be really pissed right now. He was the heart and soul of that team. And for frickin' Drew Lock?? That would be like the Chiefs trading Patrick Mahomes for...ZACH Wilson. (recent NFL-bust draft pick for the Jets, in case your wondering.)

But if they are trying to rebuild or retool the team, thinking about the future, it might actually play out well for them over the next few seasons. Two of Wilson's main strengths are his foot speed, evasiveness and athleticism, and as a 10 year veteran, these things might not be as much of a strength going forward as he gets older. The guys who last 12, 13, 15 seasons (or longer) are the ones who can rely purely on reading and dissecting defenses with their arm, and who not necessarily able to just outrun them.

Seahawks had little choice. He had a no- trade clause so he wasn't going anywhere like Washington whatever shit name they are called this week for more. Here is the problem...there was a good stat given on ESPN this afternoon...since 2016, Seattle has had 52 draft picks. Only 1 of those picks have resulted in a pro bowl status. So unless Seattle changes how they draft...they were fleeced. Denver thinks they have the pieces (I don't) so for them...this was a great deal in their mind. TB gave a lot for Brady...it paid off. LA gave a lot for Von Miller and Stafford and it too paid off.

It's a bit early to brand Zach Wilson as a bust. He's a rookie that had shown some playmaking abilities late in the season.
Second, Russ was less the heart and soul of the team as Bobby Wagner was. Seattle did Wagner a solid by cutting him this early.
Russ wanted out. He made that clear 2 years ago. Seattle with these draft picks are set for the future plus they have a sacrificial lamb at QB for now and they are minus a behind the scenes malcontent.
Denver gets a proven commodity and their asking price for the franchise just increased.
I really don't think there are any losers in this. Yeah it's gonna be rough times for Seattle for a couple years but if they play their picks correctly they could be set up for a long time to come. And let's face it, Seattle was going no where in the division any time soon with the Rams, 49ers, and Arizona all ahead of them.
Or maybe they put a package together for Deshaun Watson once he settles his court cases.

The trade-a-day NFL:

🏈Tuesday: Russell Wilson from the Seahawks to the Broncos.

🏈Wednesday: Carson Wentz from the Colts to the Commanders.

🏈Thursday: Khalil Mack from the Bears to the Chargers.

Colts' Week 1 starting QB by year:
2016: Andrew Luck
2017: Scott Tolzien
2018: Andrew Luck
2019: Jacoby Brissett
2020: Philip Rivers
2021: Carson Wentz

2022: TBD For the 6th straight season, Indy won't have the same starting QB in Week 1 as it did the year before.

Once upon a time I was very high on Wentz. I was team Wentz over Team Goff.

Now they're both just awful.

Wasn't Wentz also from North Dakota State (just like 49ers recent draft pick Trey Lance?) Wentz showed some promise early but kind of fizzled, and Lance is looking more and more like a bust; Shanahan wouldn't even let him in games as mop-up duty.

Carson Fucking Wentz.

He should be worried: Washington is where old quarterbacks go to die.

I've been a Washington fan all my life. We lose the regular season and we lose the off-season. It's what we do.

As a Panther fan in desperate need of a QB I hope to God Tepper doesn't pick up Deshaun Watson. He is interested if Watson doesn't go to prison.
