Hullo there.
This is the OOC and Casting Call for "Ace Combat Zero: The Aether Guard". The setting is the same as Ace Combat Zero, the second-latest installment in the Ace Combat franchise for PlayStation, Playstation2, and PlayStationPortable.
Although it uses the same setting as Ace Combat Zero, it does not follow the exact same path as the game for PS2 did. This will be a new story for fans of the saga to enjoy.
To join this game, you only need to read the Wiki on Ace Combat Zero, and then not even all of it. Just as long as you understand the basic premises it is Ok. But I would recommend that you also read about the countries involved (under the "See also" heading") so you can choose the one your character hails from (you can leave it blank if you want).
The world of Ace Combat revolves around this basic premise: Imagine the Cold War gone hot. No wide-spread guerrilla tactics like nowadays, but exactly what was expected to happen in the seventies and eighties. Armoured divisions advancing, modern aircraft duking it out in the skies and blowing ground troops apart, wide-spread use of radar, missiles and artillery... and in this setting, the air forces rule the battlefield.
Because the game barely keeps a semblance of realism, the roleplaying will work the same way. So, if you pilot an F-16 and fight an F-22, you still can win. I don't want people worrying about fuel, comparisons of radar power, etc... just keep a semblance of realism and try not to take all the kills for yourself. Yes, your F-16 can take on an F-22, but not too easily. What you definitely can't do is take on five enemies and down them all in a single post. That's just ridiculous and draws people away (yes, a pilot can be VERY skilled, but there are other pilots in this, you know...).
The characters belong to the mercenary air force hired by Ustio to fight back the elite Belkan air force, stationed at Valais Air Base (a somewhat improvised base of operations for Ustio and its allies, placed on top of the mountain range neighbouring with Osea, Ustio's principal ally against Belka). This is a profile you can use:
Name:
Age:
Nationality: (if you want to fill this, go to the Wiki and read on the countries under the "See Also" heading)
Job: (you don't need to be a pilot, you can be a reporter or a barman instead, but have in mind that unless you have someone else to be with you, you might get bored staying at the base)
Call sign: (individual ones, nickname-like, not "Red 1", then "Red 2"...)
Personal plane: (choose either a fighter, multirole or attacker from this list, so you can compare them to the enemies I will link to when they appear)
Description: (physical description)
You will notice I don't ask for personality or backstory. That would be because when people try to stick to a certain personality, sometimes they blunder away from it or can't stay close enough to it. Just work your character's personality, take it easy. If you want to define his or her personality, just write a few short words to help you stick to a certain pattern ("responsible, serious on the job, easy on people", for example).
