ok, this thread is for talking about all manner of sex work, from escorts, to phone sex to porn producers and professional erotica authors and anywhere in between.

anybody here in the sex industry and want to talk about it? any advice to those considering your line of work (this is a how to thread after all)? any pitfalls to avoid? was it what you expected?

and of course fantasies? do you fantisise about being a porn star, stripper, or 'girl 6'? or do you have fantasies involving these characters? especially unusual ones.

Let the fun begin:

I see there is some interest in this thread, but nobody has anytthing to say. Just to get the conversation going, is anybody willing to post what attracted them to this thread in the first place. (Did you think I was offering?)

I am girl 6 and own the company, what drew me to the work was fast money and late hrs both of which I like. I was a operator for about 8 yrs then I bought the company now I still do calls from time to time but not often. Some of the pitfalls to look for in the phonesex business is fly by night companies. You want to get with a company thats well established the company I own has been around 20 yrs and I am still partners with the orginal owner just I have controlling interest now. I can suggest several established companies. The ones I would suggest staying away from also are the ones who want you to be ON the phone for 8 hrs str8 no pee breaks, drink breaks nothing that is to harsh and a little much to ask IMO they also pay like .16 a min and you have to maintain a certain call time to get that. Well there ya go hope it helps. :nana:

Heh, the closest thing to anything like this that I've done would be making out with another girl for money.

OK, maybe this is preaching to the choir, but please explain--it is technically legal for me to pay, say, SexySparkles to make out with another woman so I can film it for sale...but if I participate in the session, it becomes prostitution and I can be arrested? Or what about if I pay them to make out, and then keep the tape for myself and never sell it?

In the interests of full disclosure, I have paid for a sexual encounter--not in the U.S., however. Or at least, I didn't inhale.

Anyone who's ever had phone sex with me has told me that I should do it professionally (except for one person, who I think she wanted to keep me for herself). I have given serious thought to it, as I could use the money, and I'd have fun, and I've also fantasized about being a stripper and a prostitute... *grin* I love the idea of being fucked by strange men and women.

Now that sounds very interesting. I think everyone would agree that you should provide more details. This sounds like an interesting story:)

What if you are a 'kept' woman in a closed relationship - sort of slut Barbie? I know a lot of marriages that have the same relationship.

Are you interested in working in this field? If yes, why would you do such a thing?

As I understand it Roman, in said scenerio you would be paying for the right to videotape the women having sex, not paying for sex. If you join them, you ARE paying for sex.

In porn, the performers are paid by the producer, not by the person they are performing with, so they are not paying for sex.

I've thought about being a phone sex operator. I think it would be fun and I'd enjoy it at first, but after awhile it would start to take some of the mystery and fun out of sex.

Splitting hairs...

OK, so let's figure out how to legalize prostitution another way...

Let's say a friend of mine pays a woman to have sex with me (like some radio shows sometimes claim to do--the show pays the woman to have sex with some Poor Loser listener). If my friend videotapes the act, is it prostitution? Or film-making? If my friend DOES NOT videotape the act, but the woman and I have sex anyhow, what is it then?

Sorry, I'm probably hijacking this thread a bit--I realize that the topic is in general about sex work, not legalizing prostitution...apologies to all.

BTW

Back in its heyday, before it had to actually turn a profit, Salon had an interesting thread on its 'TableTalk' board called 'Talk to a real, live pornographer.' The moderator was someone who worked as a photo editor at a porno magazine publisher (probably Hustler, tho' he didn't specify).

Predictably, he noted that the job was pretty boring and a bit depressing--spending your whole day looking at folks (especially women) performing sex acts and stripping eventually becomes repetitive...

So, sweetnpetite, does the idea of renting out your AV for sex sound like a good sex work business opportunity? Other than messing up the client's keyboard, seems like a pretty 'clean' venture...

mmm.... the thought of having sex with a woman like you vix...

yeah, I think that would be worth paying for

I considered for a while whether or not to respond to this thread. It's a great thread, by the way! :) Many friends know what I do, but it hasn't been made very clear here on lit, so...now is as good a time as any, eh?

I am a professional writer and editor. I have written the occasional 'requisite' Harlequin novels, and I am also an ASCAP certified songwriter and performer. However, my largest income base is drawn from writing erotica.

Hmmm...advice. Well, I would say, don't go into it with expectations of fame and glamour. No matter how liberal and liberated our country gets, there is still quite a stigma attached to anyone in the porn industry. Anyone who says otherwise is either not in the industry, or trying to sell you into it.

A job like the one I have can cause problems on a social level. Often, especially in small towns and especially in the infamous bible belt, someone involved in the porn industry is looked upon as the lepers of old. Someone to avoid, to discuss in hushed whispers, and to look up on as a way of making themselves feel better about the little naughty things they do. I have heard before, when discussing a 'friend's' extramarital affair: "Well, at least I'm not out there pushing the strip clubs and pawning off sex for a living."

So...choose your friends carefully. Make sure you have the self-confidence it takes to pull you through times like that one I just described. Words do hurt, and they will be hurled like grenades. Trust me.

Was it what I expected? Yes and no. I expected my family to not accept it, and some don't. Some members of my family still, after almost a decade, do not know what I really write for a living. I was concerned that my boyfriend would not accept it...he does, and embraces it, thank God. My work has ended relationships. It has formed new, stronger ones.

The money is better than I expected, but there are quite a few lean years before the good stuff kicks in...so don't expect money overnight. It will NOT happen. You will need something else to support you, but keeping it up will pay off in the end. The hours are of my own choosing, which is incredible. In the eyes of many, it is a dream job. I feel lucky to do what I do.

But there are trade-offs. Success in any high-profile industry brings with it a whole new set of problems. Security, for one. I write erotica that sometimes verges into the very unorthodox. There are certain people out there who prey on that kind of thing, and so, there are dangers. A normal life is entirely possible, with a few precautions. Living in a gated community is good...security systems are wonderful things...being careful not to discuss your family in interviews...using pseudonyms...sending your kids to a private, secure school...and having a very close relationship with the local and state police departments...those are all good precautions to take. I think that extends to anyone in the industry. I have a good friend who works as a stripper. More than once, she has had to deal with a man thinking that since she was willing to show it, she was also willing to give it. So...security is perhaps the biggest trade-off.

What bugs me: It seems that for those NOT in the industry, my reputation is made not by the success I have, but by the characters in my stories. I often hear: "Damn, you write about it all day, you must be hot as hell in bed" or "Need a rock hard cock to go home with you tonight?" I write about sex, yes. And sex is one of my central thoughts, 24/7. But that does not mean that I'm a sex goddess, and people often mistake the fantasies for what REALLY happens in my bedroom. (Although I like to THINK I am a sex goddess, but that's not the point I'm trying to make! lol)

Fantasies...LMAO. Oh, baby, do I have fantasies. And it's a good thing, too, because the more fantasies I have, the better it is for business. I do fantasize about being the women in my stories, and sometimes, I get lucky and get to act out those things. :) But is my sex life any better than the next woman? No. At the end of the day, I am just a woman with an interesting job. My favorite way to describe what I do: "I get to stay in my pajamas and play with imaginary friends all day long!" or "It's a hobby that just happens to pay the bills." Certainly makes it seem cool, huh? ;) Of course, there is more to it...but in the end, it IS a great job to have.

Otherwise...I have considered stripping, and other lines of work in the porn industry. But writing is in my blood, it is what I was meant to do...so what better way to enjoy my love of sex and writing than putting them together and becoming an erotica writer? :)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

S.
