What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Ogg:

That modern German thing ( MGV Männerchor - Ännchen von Tharau)

reminded me of this:-

Morriston Orpheus Choir - Myfanwy

Watched a clip of Slade’s “Cum on feel the noize” from 1973.

Noddy sure had good set of mutton chops.

Volturian - Haunting Symphony
https://youtu.be/3WZFNcw5Awk

The term "female fronted metal" has gained a bit of a bad taste recently - some femnists are complaining that reducing a band to the sex of its singer is bad somehow. Still, this song is almost archetypical for said genre and the band obviously has no problems pushing their singer HARD. If the sex of the singer has no impact on the music, why do we get to see that much naked skin? It's not an exception, almost all videos of Volturian show a lot of sexy ladies. I'm not complaining, but it feels a little like they want to deflect criticism of their music.

Not convinced yet. They have a good producer on their hands, the mix is fat as fuck, but not much of substance there besides a potential for greatness.

Friday on My Mind the Easybeats.
I think this was the original. . . .
It is, yes.

"Friday on My Mind" is a 1966 song by Australian classic rock group The Easybeats. Written by band members George Young and Harry Vanda, the British Invasion-style number became a worldwide hit, making #1 in Australia, #6 in the UK, #16 in the USA and charting in several other countries.

Vanda and Young went on to be leading record producers. George is the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young, who founded AC/DC (Acca Dacca, but only if you're Australian).

I'm finally getting around to several hundred CDs I've had for a long time, but never listened to

While I work, I'm popping them into a 2nd laptop, and ripping them to MP3s for more convenient listening.

About 50 of these CDs were sent to me by labels, PR outfits, or by artists, requesting reviews. I told them I was no longer reviewing but they said I should keep the promo CDs anyway. Point is - a lot of those are obscure acts that no one had ever heard - and many probably never will be heard - but there may be some gems among them.

Akin : The Way Things End

A French act I've never heard before. Quite dense prog with above-average female vocals.

Quite listenable.

Fountains of Wayne

Can't seem to get enough lately, and it probably doesn't help that one of their song titles continues to play a part in one of my open pieces: Valley Winter Loop.

Hmmm - they tried too hard and the song writing comes across as forced. Not bad, but I might not spin it again

Alias Eye : in Between

I've seen them live, and they were quite good on stage. Opinion later...

A bit linear - i.e. not much complexity. Probably a bit unfair, but they coma across as a a regular rock outfit with mild prog tendencies. The instrumentation and performances are good, the songwriting is - okay - but although the vocals are well delivered, the tunes are flat and uninspired.

@Haulover: You have awakened a MONSTER! I introduced my lady love to Karfagen the other day and she's been playing nothing but Karfagen stuff since then. I have the slight suspicion she likes it. :)

For a bit of contrast, I'm spinning a few thrash metal oldies, stuff I got really drunk to when I was fifteen or so.

Slayer - Reign In Blood
Kreator - Endless Aggression
Sodom - Agent Orange
Anthrax - Persistence Of Time

...that kind of stuff. :)
