that doesn't matter. I just wanted you to tell me the names of some good ones....something you liked, so I can check and see if I might like it, too.

buckeye> thanks and same to you. I'm trying to remember if I've seen that one. I'll have to check imdb.com.

I had to check on imdb because I thought maybe I'd seen this one. I was wrong.... from what I read it sounded kind of interesting, but also potentially confusing so I'm not sure if I'll add it to my list or not. I generally don't like to have to think too much for my entertainment. thanks for the recommend, tho. have a good one.

you an call me Al....

now I have that song in my head... I love it...
I don't necessarily love the song, but I don't hate it, tho... there's one part that I always have to listen to more than once, tho, if it's possible for me to do so. there's a little bass solo in there toward the end of the song that just blows me away, so if I happen to catch the song on vh1 or something I'll record it just so I can listen to that part 2 or 3 (or 4 or 5 ) times. I'm just a sucker for what I consider great guitar and bass playing.

for anyone that likes that style of music, I'd recommend a song on rik emmett's good faith cd called unconditional love. it sounds like a cross between this african style of music that paul simon did on graceland with some mariachi-style horns. really neat song, then the other songs venture off into different styles. there are at least 4 or 5 really good songs on the disc.

something butterscotch said one night reminded me of the song beacon street hotel, one of the jazzy songs on the disc and there are a couple that are reminiscent of smooth - era santana. good stuff... rik's a great guitarst and singer/songwriter.

*sigh*

I've often commented about feeling ignored here. I finally have the proof I need. you definitely don't attract much attention if you can diss nascar (twice) and not piss anyone off.

I wasn't talking you you, or in this thread... I made comments on the GB about nascar and no one even took the bait.

all I asked you for was to recommend some movies to me. ;)

Hey, just dropping by to say hi since you were so nice on my thread. So 'hi' and have a good day (or night, probably for you). :rose:

welcome, cheeky. if there's anything you wanna talk about, speak up... if not, that's ok, too. thanks for stopping by.

yep... it's almost midnight, here. what time is it in korea?

just an update on what's going on, copied mostly from a post I made on another board because I didn't feel like typing it again. some of it I may have already posted here, I dunno...
**********************************************************

I personally am doing ok, at least physically. I haven't had any complications or anything and it's looking like I'll probably be going back to work sometime this coming week. that's both good and bad, but I'm trying to just not think about the bad part of it. no, I didn't get any sponge baths, but there weren't really any nurses that I'd want one from. now, at the hospital where mom is, it'd be a completely different story. some definite hotness there.

anyway...

I wish I could say mom didn't have any complications, but she had them out the wazoo. came through the surgery fine... in fact the heart doc said she was doing better than he expected at that point, so we thought the worst was over. her lungs didn't respond well, tho, and she developed what they think was pneumonia.... she didn't get extubated until just a few days ago..... taking a break here to say I guess it was longer ago than I thought, from my last post. after that post, things went downhill.

mom's heart was doing ok, but her lungs didn't seem to be making any improvement beyong getting well enough for them to take her off the ventilator. she still had a lot of fluid in and around her lungs and she was so weak that she just couldn't cough it up on her own. they had a feeding tube going down her nose and even after they took it out she wasn't eating, she was very lethargic, and she just didn't seem to be responding to much. my bro cried when he came home thursday night because he said it hurt to see her like that and it seemed like she just didn't have any fight left. it was also hell here at home. every time the phone rings and you're afraid it's going to be bad news.... I can't tell you how many times I imagined having to call someone and tell them mom had died.

I hadn't been to see her since my procedure because of the soreness and I thought jostling around in the car would make it worse, but I had to go friday.... I'd already been through this with my dad, not seeing him for a week when he was in the hospital and then when I finally visited he was out of it and he died soon after. don't know if I could take that again.

me and bro went down there friday morning. she was pretty much out of it most of the time we were there, but she woke up to eat her lunch and she was fairly alert and talking and we even had her laughing some. I had to feed her a bit and I did the "here comes the airplane, open up the hangar" bit and she really thought that was funny. I didn't have anything to compare it to, but my bro said it was a big switch from the way she had been the night before. I haven't been back to see her again yet, but all the reports now seem to be positive.... she's been eating all of her meals, they've been getting her up out of the bed, and she sounds almost like her old self on the phone. so, hopefully we finally are through the worst of it and she'll continue on the road to recovery.

well, mrtnmoon, considering it was surgery, this actually sounds to me like a pretty positive positive outcome for both of you. My mom has had back surgery in the last year, and it really didn't help much at all ... a lot of recuperation time for not much benefit. So it could be worse.

I'm glad you are doing well, despite the need to report back to work. As for your mom, hopefully time will take care of her needs...

sorry to hear about your mom, NPA4U. I know it could be a lot worse... it's just been rough because at first it seemed like things were gonna be fairly smooth sailing for mom and then everything headed way south. it's been such a relief these past couple of days to finally see some signs of progress. now we just have to hope that she continues to recover.

here's another one of those "commentary about me" reposts, from the trivia thread...

I liked reading the comics, too. still do, as a matter of fact, but was never into ones like the phantom. I liked reading the comics to laugh.... I guess the ones I remember most from childhood were ones like hi and lois and beetle bailey and one about a guy named moose miller. the big running gag in that strip, I think, was that moose used to drive like a maniac to get his pizza home before it got cold. I always wondered what happened to that strip after our paper quit carrying it.

when I got a little older, I started to lean toward comics that were more sarcastic or made some kind of commentary about the state of the world, whether directly or indirectly. calvin and hobbes, bloom county (and to a lesser extent its follow-ups outland and opus), the far side, doonesbury. most of those have gone by the wayside except doonesbury, but now it's just too much about politics for me to enjoy most of the time.

my favorites now don't really follow any particular theme... I guess you could say most of them still either make subtle or not-so-subtle commentary about the world or family life... or maybe they're just supposed to be funny. some of the ones that have come along (or that I became aware of) in the last decade or so are zits, frazz, baby blues, the middletons, funky winkerbean, for better or for worse, agnes, jump start and the now departed (except for sundays) foxtrot. also a few of those one panel cartoons like speed bump, from the bleachers and some others whose names escape me at the moment. and, I still read hi and lois, beetle bailey, garfield and hagar the horrible.

sorry to ramble so much. I'm just kind of feeling down and lonely and at loose ends tonight, so I guess it was nice to take a trip down memory lane.

I'm sure calvin and hobbes love you, too. ;)
