I'm going back to work tomorrow. kinda looking forward to it because I've been gettin' bored and I need the money.... kinda not lookin' forward to it because....

well... I won't go into it. some of the reasons are physical and some are more personal. at this point I'm just hoping to get through it without it hurtin' too bad. take that either way you want to and you'd be right.

on the bright side, I only have to work 4 hours. gnight.

work sucked every bit as much as I thought it would. as I figured, there was lots of pain, both physical and mental. here's what I didn't expect, tho...

it really hurt and was very frustrating to have to take it so easy. I can't lift over 10 pounds right now, and there's a lot of restriciton on moving my left arm. I'm used to hustling and busting my ass... just grabbing big stacks of trays or whatever and putting them away and getting the shit done. if someone needed help moving something, I was usually the one to jump in and do it. (especially if it was an attractive female. but seriously, I did that stuff for anyone, even people I didn't like, just to help get stuff done.)

not only can I not do that now, but I frequently had to ask for help, or get someone to do something for me that I couldn't do. I thought it might be kind of fun to be at work and have license to take it easy and bust my ass, but it made me feel weak and helpless.

it wasn't all bad. some people said "welcome back" and "glad to see you back" and actually seemed to mean it. it's just that with all the over shit I was dealing with, the one that I wanted to be glad to see me didn't even talk to me.

seems like just a week or so ago, there were all kinds of ladies stopping by to say hi. some old friends, some new ones. what happened? did I talk too much about the stuff that was going on with me and my mom and/or me going back to work?

I tried to be a genial host and engage some of the new ones in conversation, as well as saying hi to everyone else and (usually) making attempts at conversation. it's too bad I'm not one of those happy-go-lucky people, I guess.

work is going sort of ok, I guess. I'm on light duty and only working 4 hour shifts, but it still wears me out. frustrating not being able to work like I'm used to, and hard because of some personal issues. trying to hang in, tho. thanks for asking. have a good one.

I thought your AV was actually a good one -- maybe not an Olympic swimmer body but not bad at all.

I hear you about work; I had knee surgery a few years ago, and it took quite a long time before I was back to normal. But it's good to note that your colleagues welcomed you back, generally speaking.

she's on the mend, thanks for asking. they were going to let her come home from the hospital friday but it became apparent that even tho she's improved, she's just not strong enough for that. if she happened to fall or something, not only would she hurt herself, but it's very likely that either me or my bro or both of us would get hurt trying to help her up. I'm not supposed to lift more than 10 pounds and bro isn't supposed to lift much more than that. all 3 of us could have wound up in the hospital.

so, at the moment she's spending the next 2 weeks in an extended care facility, also known as a nursing home. took quite a bit of convincing to get mom to realize that we weren't just trying to ship her off there for good and that it was just temporary. it's only been a couple of days, but so far she's more ok with being there than she thought she'd be.

I just hope the therapy she gets will get her prepared to come home, because that's all her insurance will cover and we really can't afford to keep her there longer than that.

Well, good luck with that.

My soon-to-be-ex worked for a while in one of those facilities. While obviously the quality varies from place to place, these people were pretty dedicated to helping people get ready to go home.
