Sean Penn vs Stephen Colbert metaphor battle.

Moderated by Robert Pinsky.

O yea.

OK. It's officially your fault that I now have a burst gut. I tried not to laugh. I really did. But that insidious, viral link, that seemingly mild and innocuous link, latched onto my consciousness like a parasite and made me, well, laugh so hard as to rupture important parts of my frail American anatomy.

I shall soon be suing you and your obviously corrupt Swedish government for knowingly permitting, even advocating, such damage to my complacent American life. Shame on you. Shame!

Shame shame shame shame shame!

Whew! I'm kind of exhausted by that fervent expression of American patriotism. Maybe I'd better sit down and have a beer or something. Put on some happy music and chill. Abba, maybe. They're always cheerful...

Robert Pinsky. Too funny.

I never liked Sean Penn before this - he's like a breath of Jon Stewart.

Oh yes, we're watching up here too.

I laughed at the challenge.
Penn says, “I’m gonna knock
you down, like a patient etherized
on a table.” Now, this is a simile
but a poorly thought out one;
that patient isn’t knocking
anyone down.

thanks! I fell asleep and missed this! we try to watch it every night.... thanks you thank you!

Here is Pinksy's Samuri's Song, the poem he referred to on the comedy central piece:
I heard him read it at Southwestern earlier this year, and wrote a poem in response.

"Pinsky apparently modeled this poem on a formula from fourteenth-century Japan: When I...then I..."

when I this, I that
when I this, I that

and he used that as inspiration for this poem. I in turn used his poem as inspiration for one... hmmm I might post it as a challenge

Robert Pinsky Samurai Song
When I had no roof I made
Audacity my roof. When I had
No supper my eyes dined.

When I had no eyes I listened.
When I had no ears I thought.
When I had no thought I waited.

When I had no father I made
Care my father. When I had
No mother I embraced order.

When I had no friend I made
Quiet my friend. When I had no
Enemy I opposed my body.

When I had no temple I made
My voice my temple. I have
No priest, my tongue is my choir.

When I have no means fortune
Is my means. When I have
Nothing, death will be my fortune.

Need is my tactic, detachment
Is my strategy. When I had
No lover I courted my sleep.
