I am skeptical of all politicians no matter what their views are. That are looking for power first, and if they do anything useful it's to that end.
That said, I'd like to know the true behavior of all those in government since 1776. Hell, all of them in the last 10,000 years (Trump too!). This may be an apocryphal story. When told that Ulysses Grant drank too much, somebody (Lincoln?) said, "Find out what kind of whiskey he likes, and give it to all my generals."

At the time that Lincoln (allegedly) said that, Grant was winning and the rest of the generals (largely political appointees) weren't. And it was Grant's boss who (allegedly) said that Grant was a drunk.
