All of which is to say, Democrats need their own Trump – a wrecking ball who will challenge the party’s dogmas; a disruptive outsider who can force them out of their ideological cul-de-sac. The radical transformation Democrats need seems beyond the capacity of the party’s entrenched leadership: To expect people who cannot admit error to change their minds and ways seems like wishful thinking. They probably don’t need a Trump-like figure to win elections, but they need one to find a way to govern effectively. This would not require abandoning progressive ideals, but developing new ways to actually achieve them.

This will not be easy. As a spur, Democrats should consider the fate of their allies in the legacy media. The partisan, left-wing turn many news organizations have taken in the last decade has undermined the trustAmericans once had in their reporting – while contributing to shrinking audiences and mass layoffs. That failure is a major reason millions of Americans are turning to alternative outlets, including X, Substack, and podcasters such as Joe Rogan, for news.

Political parties are not subject to the swift and ruthless forces of the market. But Democrats would be wise to see the decline of their media allies as a canary in the coal mine. It should inspire them to begin a true process of soul-searching and change for their own good and for that of the nation.

Oh look...another thread about how the Democrats will need to change to remain relevant.

How unique

Tide comes in tide goes out.

A Seventh Wave candidate comes along every generation or two.

I’ve been involved in party politics since high school ( so 6 years now!)

My many-term federal rep used to say:

“government and politics is like a freight train… you can speed it up or slow it down some, but it isnt going to change direction unless you derail it”

The overreaction is vast. The best campaigner for the 2026/8 Democrats continues to be Trump. No policy change needed. It will be interesting to see how Thume and Johnson end up working with the new administration

God damn, AJ. Not even your guy winning can cure your TDS.

When the Trump team is fully appointed and take control, they will be prohibited from being within 100 yards of any school (apart from Catholic ones).

Oh, there VERY likely WILL BE a more militant GENUINELY POPULIST representative as the Democratic nominee in 2028 after DonOld’s FAUX POPULISM is FULLY exposed as the farcically ELITIST grift it ALWAYS was.

When food and rent prices, etc, do NOT magically go down, and Social Security, Medicare, the ACA, food programs, etc, DO come under attack - while climate change related disasters continue to pummel the country / world and peoples’ pocket books - the TOTAL POPULACE will FINALLY have the veil pulled back on DonOld’s TRULY ELITIST serving grift.

President Biden and Kamala Harris WERE the olive branch to moderate governance in the two party system. They did their best to serve all Americans and the free world in the face of the rise in authoritarianism aggression and corporate greed - and they were still rejected.

The OP may well be right - but it doesn’t mean it will be the best thing for America or the world. (It WILL be good for chaos junkies.)

That would have been Sanders. They had their chance.

In 2016 many voters were wavering between Trump and Sanders, seeing both as anti-establishment.

Difference being, Sanders was that for real.

Quite true, but, N.B.: The ideological change the Dems need is the same as the ideological change the country needs: a sharp turn to the left. Not in a culture-war, identity-politics sense, but in an economic, death-to-the-plutocracy sense.

I hope you run an optimistic campaign on that front.

To get noticed, you will need bright colors, a megaphone..., and you might have to get fire involved.
Immolation is an option.

Give Beverage Alcohol/Ethanol another four years to work on her. She'll be needin' a lotta Crack-FillTM by 2028.

And the cuteness of the cackles, the yellow school busses and the other word salads has lost its shine, so . . . .

She will be an elder statesperson (state meson).

Only one Kennedy so far as proved not to be an incipient lush and he replaced that with the antidote (and it will kill him yet).

It didn't really catch on for algore.

Allah spared us that level of hypocritical bullshit in his Infinite Wisdom.

We have problems because they are going to dress Newsom as success and the sheep will bleat for the sharp-dressed man...

He'll needs shades. Dark shades. 🕶️

And guns. Lots of guns.

N000k wouldn't know what to do with a gun if he axed Alec how to do it.
