I was wondering, Is it me? I travel about a dozen times a year. When it's a short trip I just do carry-on. I'll travel with a silicone dildo. I seem to always get my carry-on pulled and double checked. Is this normal with toys? I've also noticed that when it's a female doing the double check, they seem to know what it is when they bring up the xray.

Yes. Modern baggage scanners detect density like a CAT scanner. Silicon shows up with a similar density to a few plastic explosives. I used to build the machines, and saw it proven over and over again. For a wonder, smoked meats do also.

Reading this post, I just had the image of someone using a hollow dildo as a way to smuggle drugs.

I keep it in a fabric bag. I debated about keeping it in the bottle holder of my back back so it picks up clean and they could tell it’s a dildo. Guess if I don’t want to deal with it I should check a bag.

That won't help. Checked bags are scanned the same way in a high speed unit. It will still be flagged and still be searched. My wife added a pocket pussy to my checked bag better than ten years ago and it had a sticker on it that said it had been searched. With the silicon and the electronic alarm clock I brought, it was a sure thing.

If they have no batteries we put ours in the check in but if they have batteries they go in our hand luggage. Our philosophy is that with the number of people buying sex toys the security people at the airports have seen far worse.

Never been stopped with any of them

Well, I’m traveling today. I’m making it easier access and putting it the pouch for a water bottle.

This our experience as well and, since neither of us is a fan of toys that vibrate, batteries aren't an issue. We have a "toy bag" that is small enough to be a carry-on, but that we usually check because our carry-on allotment is taken up by other, more valuable, items. We call it the "carpet bag" because of it's tapestry-like exterior fabric. It looks like something that Mary Poppins would carry....LOL To make sure toys of various materials and compositions play nice with each other, every item is its own satin or velvet bag.

We've never had any indication that's it's caused any kind of concern and never seen any sign that it's been opened and searched. I'm sure x-rays and scans have revealed its contents, and elicited some chuckles, but maybe just the sheer volume of what's inside discourages them from even messing with it. They probably think, "Oh crap. Not again. How many dildos do these people need?"

We frequently drive to Las Vegas and we always glance at each other, and have a bit of a chuckle, when a hotel bellman whisks it away away on a baggage cart. They always seem to hang it at shoulder level on the end of the rack. As they maneuver it through check-in crowds I always want to say, "Look out. Bag of sex coming through."

I've heard of some people who were searched for vibrators and dildos, especially filled with silicone and stuff.
