The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I did something I almost never do.

I took a nap. I got so tired for some reason driving to my moms. And again driving back home.

Got back around 530 and took a nap. Only slept for abt 40 mins but it was heavenly. Just the nicest nap.

Then a walk in the twilight.

Nothing sexy for dinner. Leftovers.

This pic does not do the naked wye justice but the whole road was super yellow orange.

Look at these wierd clouds. Or contrails. Not sure which.

Good Morning, everyone. This stupid cold is still in me. I was hoping it would dissipate over night, but no luck. I need to fish my mask out for my apt today. I can't cancel because she'll be leaving by the end of the week and this is a reschedule for missing my last one. No fever though. That is a plus. Enough of my whining. I hope everyone has a great start to their week!
Hope you're feeling better!!! 🤗 🍵 🍯

Morning all.

I got some catching up to do. Last night we just went out and got two slices of pizza for dinner and we had a beer along with it while we watched the football game.

Normal till about an hour afterwards, I started getting a really really bad headache.

I don’t know if it was the beer or not, but it was so bad I couldn’t even sleep. Migraine worthy.

I feel a little better this morning. I’m working, but that headache is still hanging in there… not nearly as bad as it was last night tho.
Hope you flushed that out of your system.
Keep track of which beers do that... was it hoppy? wheat? anything about it that sets it apart from other beers you drink?

Yes, I’m a glutton for punishment and I’m gonna try the exact same beer tonight. I’m just going to drink a lot more water, because I might’ve been a little bit dehydrated.

It’s a Czech beer, and I think they contain a fair amount of sulfur or sulfites or something like that.

I found this great liquor store near me that sells czeCh, Polish, Croatian, Ukrainian, and even a Serbian beer. I think also a few from the Baltic nations like Latvia or Lithuania.

Love, love, love those Central and eastern European Pilsners.

The question is, do they love me? 🥲

Welcome. We have . . . standards here. This is the opening post of this thread stating said standards. It is suggested that one who is visiting or new go back 20-30 pages or so to acquire the flavor and scent of the water, so to speak. We zealously guard our own.

We’re starting over. Not being divisive, but I think it was just time to start a new thread.

Talk about whatever you want: food, sheds, baby goats, nudist camps. Let’s avoid politics, religion or drama.

And respect one another. This place is built on respect for each other.

This is not a pickup joint. If you’re gonna try to get cyber laid here, you’ve come to the wrong place - or at least build some rapport first.

Order a coffee. A beer. And a nice dessert. Let the barkeep know what’s on your mind.

Stay or go as suits you. The food is good and the drinks better.

Good morning/Good afternoon/Good evening

Is the coffee any good in here? What about the customers?
The coffee is EXCELLENT.
The customers even better, IMO!

First of all welcome. But most importantly, we conduct ourselves a bit differently here than most of the rest of Lit.

Post #1 introduces the joint... and glancing back over the last 10-20 pages provides additional context.

To be clear, we have a few guidelines. Everyone is welcome but we are protective of the vibe weve created here. Think about it as a bunch of regulars at a coffee joint or a bar like cheers.

1. No religion 2. No politics 3. No drama 4. This isn't a hook up thread. If you want to talk saucy to people here, we ask you to take it to the DMs or go somewhere else.

This applies to all who visit this thread.

If this feels like a good match, welcome… order up a cuppa coffee!!

If not then there’s a lot of other threads on lit that may work better.

Yes sir! Have been caught out on the water too many times. In HS I used to clam as a summer job. Three of us had been out and killing it all morning when a storm started brewing. All the other clam diggers headed for the hill but we three idiots rolled the dice…came up snake eyes! The bottom dropped out and here we were, three dummies in an underpowered skiff, with about 1500 clams between us, lighting hitting the spartina grass all around!😳. It looked like small explosions or something out of a war movie! I was so damn scared, just knew we were going to get hit any second. Longest 10 mins of my life!
I recall a similar thing I did but not lightening rather just wind and subsequent waves building. And here I am in a canoe with an inexperienced sailor on the Great Lakes. I was scared we would get swamped. The adrenaline saved my ….

Flat head, inline four, maybe six??? (Cat is in the way man!) Edit: Continental six, maybe. What's it from/for? (I cheese out on hardware like that...)

A little like, but not very close to the 300ci pushrod overhead valve six I'm planning on for the old truck build... Gonna back it up with a 5 speed truck gear box.

1947 Packard 356 engine and 3-speed o/d transmission.

That's Fred the (former) barn cat. She (yes, she) would inspect every single thing I dragged home while it was still on the trailer. I have a stall of engines in the barn with her sitting up top. I'll have to look it up.

That's the inline 8, then. That explains the intake/exhaust. Never seen one in person. Heading into a car?

I'd say my stuff isn't that old, but in reality the truck predates that packard motor. But it's not going original (for various reasons). More of a rat rod/resto mod type thing. Want to make a semi-daily summer driver out of it.

I have a handful of Packard projects and two drivers. A couple will be hot rods. There is the rare large coupe I own which deserves/wants to be restored properly. It came with the wrong engine - something bad likely happened to the original one. That one in the picture is of proper vintage for that car. I have a couple others which I intend to rod. This will be fun.

Best wishes on your project!!!

A very up and down day.

The good:
1) had my annual physical. Sez I have bloodwork and vitals of a 25 year old.
2) left work early to wrestle w social security to finalize becoming a payee for my mom. Fourth and FINAL visit. Done!

The mediocre to bad:
1) work is super busy. Project work. Got more last minute shit poured onto my to do list today that will necessitate working over the weekend to have information ready for first thing Monday morning. Whatcha gonna do? Pays the bills.

The ugly.
1) tax bullshit about our farm. Will see that tax assessor next week during his office hours.

I agree w/ @Greylag, @Lilianna23.
Credit and a pat on the back.
easy to get overwhelmed and then in a hole and feel it difficult to dig your way out.
One project, task, chore, questionnaire at a time... few minutes a day, every day.
It gets better, easier the longer you work at it.
🤗
I've been trying to add things that need doing to the "Shit To Do" list, if for no other reason than to cross them off! 😅😅

Test done follow up in 2 weeks. He increased my protonix qnd did some biopsies. Ny guess was for h pylori ...

On a bad note. My parents got caught up in qn elaborate scam to the tune of 35000 dollars. They isolated them...impersonated a federal trade commission commissioner and told them a good story. I shut it down today........ long story cut short. I am taking over financial stuff and gonna help them with all the bs.......
