I’m looking forward to the next 20 years of being able to win any internet argument simply by saying “You voted for Trump.”

Good news was that Rome ploughed forward after the Republic fell. The bad news was that it was as an Empire, a monarchy, an increasingly corrupt, brutal, cruel, tyrannical, and malevolent autocracy and despotism. But! Musk has told us to expect a huge down turn before the good times roll!! It will be the Dems who have to piece shif together AGAIN …. If we get to have another election
When will our new Emperor install a horse in the Senate?? That will be a sign our empire has ended (look up Caligula)
So you still have time to save yourself.I haven't voted.![]()
From your condemnation? Lol.So you still have time to save yourself.
From public ridicule. People who vote for Trump in 2024 will be laughed at for years. From your condemnation? Lol.![]()

First example of something that you posted I completely agree with, and is inspiring for the future.this doesn't end with Trump.
That wasn't even the problem. The cruelty of emperors really only affected the senatorial elite. The problem was that Rome had a monarchy with no established principle of succession. Succession by adoption -- an emperor designated his successor -- worked while it worked, but eventually, civil war became the usual way of choosing a new emperor.Good news was that Rome ploughed forward after the Republic fell. If we're lucky, it will pass to Vance, who is dangerous, but vulnerable on a number of fronts. If we're unlucky, it will pass to Tulsi Gabbard. That woman, and I speak as a former supporter of hers, is extremely dangerous. She has given in to her personal demons and any potential greatness in her is gone, but she doesn't see it that way, and in her ambition to achieve her version of greatness, she will (figuratively, I hope) knife anyone in her way. She is far smarter, tougher, and more ruthless than Vance. You don't become a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve by being an idiot. The problem is, this doesn't end with Trump.
There is this right-wing nationalist-populist current in American politics. It manifested in the 1990s with Ross Perot and the Reform Party. (Arguably earlier, in the 1960s, with George Wallace and the American Independent Party.) In the Obama years it re-emerged as the Tea Party. And then Trump placed himself at its head. That’s why you don’t hear anything about the Tea Party any more – it IS the Trump movement.
This current differs from mainstream pro-corporate Republican politics in its economic nationalism and protectionism. It is the kind of thinking that sees the “productive” classes in society, the middle class and the working class (the two classes are not distinguished in this kind of thinking) as being under threat both from the poor/nonwhite below and from the rich/corporations above – see producerism. See also paleoconservatism.
Trump is 78 years old. No matter how this election goes, he can’t last much longer. And when he goes, the MOVEMENT will still be there – waiting for somebody else to lead it.
What happens then?
Ask the people of Alexandria about Caracalla....it wasn't always limited to the senatorial elite. That wasn't even the problem. The cruelty of emperors really only affected the senatorial elite. The problem was that Rome had a monarchy with no established principle of succession. Succession by adoption -- an emperor designated his successor -- worked while it worked, but eventually, civil war became the usual way of choosing a new emperor.
It doesn’t end with Trump, but Trump is now a club we can beat them over the head with. The problem is, this doesn't end with Trump.

You can sit there in your 1br rental apt. with your cats and laugh away. Maybe have an abortion or 2 just for fun. Eventually we'll die and it won't much matter. Will it?From public ridicule. People who vote for Trump in 2024 will be laughed at for years.

It’s not too late for them to jump off the Trump garbage truck. It hasn’t gone over the cliff yet.
