A few jugs of wine or ale usually make others more desirable as the evening and imbibing progresses. There is an old joke fondly told among tavern wenches:

I'm not much for wine, but I do like ale. However, while it might be true that the more ale imbibed, the more desirable the fair ladies become (not that they need much help) - the problem is that the more imbibed, the less desirable I become.

I used to carry chunks of Magnesium to keg parties on the sandbar. Just when people would be winding down, their one night wonders selected, I'd toss a chunk in the bonfire, it would make it brighter than daylight and people would resume pounding drinks.
I know, cheap fun on my part, but it was hilarious to watch!
