We had a civilized debate on here a few nights ago, no deterioration. I wonder if it would have gone differently if it had been on PB, with the same things said but no basis of commonality established

It didn't take me long to see how rabid PB gets in both directions... It's even funnier to watch the reaction they give an anarchist. Lol
Hence my comment earlier, if the thoughts don't align on PB, it immediately devolves to insults and attacks...

In my experience, it really is those on the hard right who get rabid. I think those on the left tend to just become patronizing when insulting; which isn’t good, kinda reinforces the problem, but not quite rabid lol

I am not looking to see who has it worse, I will say I have experienced, witnessed this on both sides, left or right. I am sure my previous user name ended up on many block lists as I had made two statements in a thread I apparently did not belong and faced embarrassment and humiliation I quickly left and noticed if I interacted with anyone that was apart of that I was ignored. When I would have been welcomed before.

I will talk about my views… i wont debate. The object or goal to possibly change a persons mind seems futile to me unless said company are both willing to change their views.

For me my views come from my religious beliefs, i am not looking to change my views or my beliefs, i will also not looking to change anyones views or beliefs. If we are discussing something under the same moral code that is one thing, but with so many moral codes, so many perspectives in life and the goal or meaning of it, creates an almost impossible ground. For example, a Christian and an athirst want to discuss moral doctrine. Well the atheist will automatically throw out any argument that a Christian brings up based off a biblical outlook because an atheist does not abide or even believe in said set or rules. And vice versa. This can also be applied in the political realm.

As I said, i am willing to answer how or why I believe, but my goal is never to persuade or change another persons outlook, in same, i will reject a conversation when it becomes apparent someone wants to change my mind.

I dont want to wrongly label or pigeonhole you but after having the discussion with you i would say you are a staunch libertarian, not republican. Please correct me if im wrong. It was a good discussion and remained very civil.

To me, debate is more about getting to the truth of a matter, and understanding the others’ perspectives
It does often become about changing those views, but that would be on eg how to vote, whether voting makes a difference etc, not someone’s values
I don’t agree that it’s impossible for eg a Christian and atheist to find common ground
I think there are shared axioms and principles, and both together can solve a common problem, even if they won’t agree on how we understand the universe

You are correct,
I was libertarian, but now lean farther toward anarchist.... Not the bastardized version of the word that the MSM rewrote, but the original version, which means "without a ruler."

if im being honest, they make me feel "normal", if not elevated. luckily im a happy friendly "drunk". the ones i take are legal in almost every state. texas still doesnt have legal cannabis.
