I got too deeply involved in politics to the point that it was damaging to me and I now try to avoid it. Especially difficult in an election year. But as this is a monarchy and presumably without elections, I think I'm okay here.

But damned if I ever go near the Politics board here. That place is scary.

Music is good, though. Isn't this a place to talk about music? This soothsayer says some soothing songs should soothe stressful souls.

People well i dont like people, more specifically i dont like the lack of self control. Wether here on lit or IRL, threats like that right or left makes me sick, believe and vote how you chose. The use of force and threats, the demand others think or vote like ones self it disturbing to me and makes me sad

I have yet to see a productive or rational conversation on the PB. I basically put everyone who starts a thread on the PB on ignore, so that I get no notifications from there when I select "New Posts."

It's not that I am ignorant or uninterested in politics, but the PB is just a toxic, festering cesspit.

Anytime political discourse turns into a debate...I tend to see my way out. I am always open to dialogue, a true exchange of ideas and ideals but I find often it just deteriorates

I used to pop in once in a while, but it just frustrated me too much. I find the rational discussions too few and far between. Besides, I come here for fun distraction, not more of the same I see around me every day.

I am also reminded of something I learned a long time ago. Minds are rarely changed by debate, argument, or even facts. Minds are changed through experiences, specifically experiences that make us feel differently than we once did.

We had a civilized debate on here a few nights ago, no deterioration. I wonder if it would have gone differently if it had been on PB, with the same things said but no basis of commonality established

There’s a lotta truth to that
But minds can be changed through gradual and repeated exposure to eg examples of disinformation, especially when there’s not an assumption of enmity to start with
Also - finding some common ground eg things need to change, can reduce those negative assumptions and feelings toward not just that person, but people holding whatever values they might be. The more people talk, the more people realize people who disagree with them are not really enemies
