If they’d turned them into foederati and given them a route to citizenship the western empire could have ridden out the storm, like the east did. Maybe. There's all sorts of hypothetical what-if's there. The Romans did try controlled immigration in part. Roman Britain was an example, where Vortigern allowed the Saxons in to assist him against the Picts initially. Didn't work out to well for the Roman-Britain's. Plenty of other examples, but a lot of them were mishandled.

What you can say is that uncontrolled invasions of barbarians is never a good thing for the host country, and right now that is us, and its been a deliberately engineered invasion for political reasons. LOL. Nope. I advocate instant deportation of all 50,000,0000. No appeals. Criminal record. No returns. And jailing everyone who has ever assisted them in any way.
