The Federal Reserve adjusts the prime rate four times a year.

September 1st is one of those days, election year or not.

The Fed overreacted in June when it declined to cut the interest rate, stating (erroneously) that they had some concerns about "lingering inflation", which both the stock market gurus and Joe Mainstreet quickly called preposterous.

In retrospect, this can be seen as a political ploy to disrupt the economy by essentially freezing new mortgage creation (why get a new mortgage at 6 percent when you can wait three months and save thousands at 5 percent?) This was a clear attempt to lessen economic growth to reflect poorly on President Joe Biden's re-election chances.

This has boomeranged on them though because a rate cut prior to the election NOW has a clear benefit for Kamela Harris. (It would have undoubtedly been promoted as "too little too late" had President Biden remained in the race.

Once again, the Law of Unintended Consequences has bitten Republicans on the ass.
