I think can be taught to most.. there are relatively few that don't have it because they are to far in the other side of the brain..... I think what can't be taught is intuition. I have great intuition.Indeed it is! I had colleagues tell me critical thinking could not be taught. I differed mightily with them. I could, and did, teach critical thinking.
I would have times when I would be at the desk charting or eating lunch and I would get a thought in my head "go check on room 5" and every single time there would be an issue. That little voice or uncomfortable feeling in my belly never steered me wrong.... or some little tiny thing would be different and I would have an inkling of a problem. I would call a doc and he would blow me off...the next am I would find out the patient had a bigger problem and was transferred to icu.....
