Mom has a good lightweight cane which would suffice for most occasions. I also got her a lovely twisted wood walking stick for walking and for Necessary Poke Administration. They both rest in the corner near the front door and both get ignored. I'm wondering if it's going to take a fall to get her attention.


Truth is, I'd prefer first of all that she take her phone with her. She sucks at that, too.

Looks like Calm before the storm here in New Jersey. Around 11:00 a.m. we expect severe thunderstorms 30 to 40 mph winds with gusts to 60 mph. The storm moved over Pennsylvania but we're on the east side which is the strongest. We have a 30% chance of tornadoes today until I think 3:00 p.m.. so it's going to be a wonderful morning. Hope everyone else is safe and dry.

I just did something quite dumb.

I’m supposed to watch my neighbors dog and cats this weekend, so I walked over to their house, about a quarter of a mile away through a wooded road.

Tree limbs were coming down left and right. Some of those guests were really powerful. NOT SMART! (but I lived to tell the tale.)

I dearly hope not, but getting old isn't easy. Loss of mobility and acknowledging that it means you're closer to the end of the road than the start is very difficult for most of us. Whether we're the one aging or the one watching our parents age - it's not easy... and often not a kind process either. I wish you both the best outcome possible.

Thank you. Of course, some of the things I fuss about are some of the things that I begin to consider as I'm not getting any younger, either. We'll see what happens.

I love my mom... she is very independent and soo smart. It is so hard to see her not be as sharp and have the "old people" problems. And sometimes she gets in the way of her own happiness and it breaks my heart.

She told me that she was 52 when her mom died and I started to cry..

She is feeling her mortality

I sing Bruce Springsteen songs to get rid of ear worms. Glorry Days, Pink Cadillac or Born in the USA. For some reason that works for me. Was never a hug fan but i guess it is a Jersey Shore thing.

So sad news….

My mom fell last nite. Broken hip. She has to get surgery this morning or she will not walk again.

My sister is with her last nite and again this morning. I will be taking over later and tomrrow.

I am that Wonderer67. They can work miracles these days. My father broke his when he was 80. He didn't play tennis again but he was walking great. He lived to 93.

Only place you get that would be a mobile snack van. Overc here you get it in a pot with milk on the side. We usually share a pot and add hot water to make sure its weak enough lol

I have been a few places where you get a pot. I have a ceramic tea pot I made in high school. It is perfect for 3 or 4 cups from 2 bags. I know people are particular about how they brew there tea. My sister wants the bag dipped in the water and my wife wants it in the cup and pour the hot water on it.

I couldn't be farther on the tea grid from @Greylag if I tried.
I'm a solid 1A with no milk or sugar. Anytime I did add them, I was still a 2B or 3B. I believe @Greylag said he was a 4C.


I prefer to put my loose tea in the pot, boil the water with my electric kettle, then pour the water into the pot. I place a strainer over my cup and pour the tea into my cup. If cleanup or tea strength is an issue then I use a tea strainer that goes into the pot so it can be removed once the tea is the desired strength and so clean up is easier, too.
But on-the-go, I use bags. A mix of commercial tea bags and tea bags that I hand fill with loose tea.
