Google has been declared a monopoly by.
First antitrust victory by the Department of Justice in 20+ years.
The End of Reagan-era "Bigger must be better".
Convicted felon Donald J Trump predicted this verdict last week.
I wonder what the Dept. of Justice will do now?
Hopefully the Department of Justice will target Sinclair Broadcasting next.
"Google enjoys an 89.2% share of the market for general search services, which increases to 94.9% on mobile devices,” the ruling said.
Two immediate thoughts:
Google announced at their earnings call last week they'd be using the Trump/Biden tax incentives to build their own semiconductor fabrication facilities here in America (this was one reason Intel stock tanked last week, they'd been selling hardware to optimize search engines). I'm guessing this is now dead.
Beginning in 2020, Google began "shit-ifying" their search results, gradually phasing out the clear deliniation between avertisements and real search result (Went from yellow boxes "sponsored by Google" to lightly shaded boxes, to tiny print "recommended by Google" to no notice at all.....in a vain effort to maximize the time users spent on their site, which defeated the purpose of a speedy accurate search engine. Basically Google Search was morphing into Yahoo circa 2001.
