Yes get a good electrician those suicide connections are very dangerous. I wired my own but according to an approved setup. Mine has a physical interlock between the grid and generator. I can choose what circuits i use so the ac and heavy current items can be managed. That physical interlock is very importantHow are our Fla residents holding out? Stay safe y’all! My dad had an electrician put in a generator feed to the breaker box for a back feed cord (suicide cord as it’s known) and left me instructions of how to hook it up.
Not actually having done it myself, I go to the source of all knowledge…U-Tooooob. If find out that my dad and his electrician buddy….well, they may have “skipped” a safety feature ( lock out kit) and I’m not exactly feeling the luv of using this thing especially with my 81 yr old mother alone and me heading back to work. So looking for an electrician to bless it or maybe redo it with a safer hookup…possibly even a new main breaker box as this one is well over 50 yrs old.
Anyone got a # for a good electrician?

She has two sources of power…her Gas Gen and huge battery bank that she can use inside. I doubt she’ll lose power but if she does I’ll just run extension cords off both. Eventually we need to rectify the other problem.Good luck. Safety is first and foremost, and always paramount.
Maybe have ur mom over rather than a last minute repair?? (Just a suggestion, don’t kill me!!)
The junction box is so old, 52 yrs to be exact, it doesn’t have the Main (unless it’s covered) and only the Gen. I sent the electrician some pics of the setup and he said he’d have to put another box on or we could update the whole box. My mom is leaning towards just getting the whole box redone, then the interlock would fit like you described.
I should say we drove up the Jersey Turnpike to get to Yankee stadium. That car with the fins on the back is a 59 Buick and a year or two before my trip. Most of those cars are 50s cars.
The NJ Turn pike is 4 3 lane roadways now up north. I recall doing 120 +/- headed up to NYC. A 3 hr. trip took 2 hrs early in the morning.
I used to find all sorts of animals in my skimmer including chipmunks. Take it easy on the back.
