Tariffs raise the cost of products. The greedy companies will only keep their costs just below the tariffed products. What happens to letting the markets competition setting costs?

I doubt Trump has read the thousand page Project 2025 document but I’m sure there are things in it that will be adopted if he wins in November. He’s served as our president for four years so we have a pretty good idea of what a second term will look like. Some things I anticipate include:
  • A transition plan and experienced team largely in place on Day 1. Changes will be much faster and more sweeping than they were in 2017.
  • A major crackdown on border crossings and illegal immigration
  • Merit-based immigration policies
  • A more favorable regulatory environment for the fossil fuel industry, particularly with regard to natural gas
  • Major cuts in electrification and “clean energy” subsidies and mandates
  • Sharp rollback of EV subsidies, auto manufacturer fleet mandates, rules and regulations
  • Extension of the TCJA individual tax rates that are set to expire next year
  • Large scale eradication of DEI programs in federal agencies and the military
  • Extensive use of executive orders and greater executive branch control of federal agencies (ex. Transportation, energy, education, justice, FTC, FDA, FCC, etc)
  • Conservative judicial appointments (district & appellate judges - speed of confirmations largely contingent on which party controls the Senate)
  • Rules, regulations, and federal funding restrictions that will make it more difficult for men to participate in women’s sports
  • Tighter restrictions on federal funding of abortion
  • Tougher sanctions on Iran
  • Improved relations with Israel
  • Tariffs will remain a big part of US trade policy although details are TBD
  • More vigorous enforcement of federal drug trafficking laws, more aggressive prosecution of violators
The first 24 months will define his second term. He will be ineligible to run in 2028 and therefore will essentially be a lame duck in his final two years.
