2024 First Presidential Debate Thread: June 27th

The stakes are not only high for the candidates. This is a high risk, high reward situation for bumbling stumbling CNN. It’s ratings are in the toilet, it’s replaced CEOs three times in less than 3 years, the town hall with Trump last year precipitated the firing of the last CEO, and various hosts in recent years have caused a great deal of controversy and embarrassment. Add to that a new format that’s never been tried before. All that said, this should be a ratings bonanza if they don’t fuck it up.

The network is on track to have its lowest-rated month since 1991 in the prime-time 25-to-54-year-old demographic with just 94,000 viewers, according to Nielsen data, though that may change after Thursday’s debate. Presidential debates traditionally attract millions of viewers in the demographic.

I expect Joe will win. Especially if he manages to upset Donald early on and that's not hard to do

I'm still finding it very difficult to believe that the presidential race is really neck and neck. The Republicans/Russians/Trumpers are dropping so many propaganda lies about the state of the union that I pretty much believe they are shoving lies about the "neck and neck" of the race as well. I find it very difficult to believe that more than 21 percent of American voters are bamboozled enough by Trump to vote for him--for anything.

Bringing Up Drugs? Undermining the Debate? These Are Old Trump Tactics.

To spend time on former President Donald J. Trump’s corner of social media is to witness any number of contradictory, unproven or outright conspiratorial ideas blooming, all at once. The approaching presidential debate has apparently sent him into overdrive.

On social media and at rallies, Mr. Trump has suggested that President Biden is taking performance-enhancing drugs ahead of the debate. Then, on Monday, he called on Mr. Biden to take a drug test. Mr. Trump banged out the demand on his social media account: “DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!”

This was a dramatic turnaround for Mr. Trump, who just days ago was also suggesting that Mr. Biden would be spending most of his debate preparations sleeping. Earlier this year, he called Mr. Biden “the WORST debater I have ever faced. He can’t put two sentences together!”

But in recent days, he has called Mr. Biden a “worthy debater,” reminding his audience of Mr. Biden’s performance in vice-presidential debates against Paul Ryan in 2012.

Everything from the MAGA fucks right now is meant to diminish the debate results. Blame the drugs ,the moderator, the network......etc. Trump agreed to to terms of the debate, but of course it's because he was forced to.
..

There's a reason why these bullshit things are trending.

Let’s hope Trump finds a good cause he needs to do a fundraiser for… and then forgets to fund.

That’s always a good reason to skip a debate. $$$$
