Picked ten tomatoes this morning
Lemon cucumbers by next week

Every other week I get produce from a farm that's local. It's called a csa. It's more like Farms instead of a farm. They have a high tower and they have cows and chickens and ducks and geese and they get in mushrooms from another farm and peaches from another Farm and raspberries from another farm etc etc etc. All the partner farms are local too.... This week I'm getting raspberries cherries peaches cucumbers potatoes salad mix and a few other things I can't remember. They give me a list of based on preferences and then I can swap things out so this week they had several herbs in my basket I took those out and mushrooms in my bathroom and I added more raspberries and cherries have one thing of peaches cuz I already have some oh and green beans I got some green beans. I got four quarts. So I'll eat some and freeze some. I'd rather give the money too the farmers around here then Kroger.

I am envious of the farmers cooperative thingie. I also miss the Amish market. We have Farmer Steve here. Good part is, he's convenient. Bad part is, he's as expensive at the grocery store and the quality isn't all that much better. I had trouble buying tasty tomatoes there last year, and this part of the world grows something called a Hanover tomato, and it's damned fine eatin'.


Got the newer/old rifle taken to pieces, cleaned thoroughly, lubed thoroughly, and reassembled to the point of needing the new op rod spring which is coming on Tuesday (we think). Amazing how much easier this one was compared to the first time through. Well, I do know more now. I didn't even have to look up how to reassemble the bolt or the bullet carrier assemblies.


The old cat is spending the day in the laundry room. Keeping an eye on him.

That is almost as hot as it was here yesterday of 90. I would never expect those temps either in WA or MI.

It's happening more frequently here. Most people here don't have AC.

Today it's a reasonable and comfortable mid 70s.

My brother in law was a truck driver and told so many stories of crazy drivers. He told me how to drive so trucks could see me. I follow his advice today.

I had a BF that drove truck. He gave me similar advice. I still heed it!

I live in the Borderlands where the flow of food northwards is a 24/7 affair. The produce warehouses have food that is perfectly good but won’t have enough shelf life when it reaches in interior.

That’s where produce is redistributed, usually about 60lbs of vegetables for $15. (Food remaining after Food Banks pickup)

We usually have a lot of zucchini and tomatoes but whatever is seasonal will find its way in the box. You can’t choose, you get what you get and it can be surprising. Once I received a Dragon Fruit. Ugly! But I watched a YouTube video on what to do and it was tasty.

Anytime I get a box I share with friends and usually end up making ratatouille with all the veggies.

If it wasn’t distributed it would go to the landfill which is a shame because there is so much food but it’s not where the people are.

I was up late with a good book and up early for no good reason. Happy it happened on a weekend, but did change the way my day unfolded today. Can't complain really - got a good nap out of the deal.

That's why these programs are so needed. Food deserts are a real thing. So any program that helps redistribute resources to where they are scarce and needed is amazing. I'll root for and support those underdogs.

As a kid, I used to hate those dried fruits. Fruit cake was an absolute no for me.

Never knew what a fruit cake was until I read about it in a book. Don't recall the book but something set historically where fruit cake was a holiday tradition. I had to look up what it was and had the same reaction.

My introduction to dried fruits was with the Health Food craze of the 80s. I tried a bite of a few but found them all to be way too sweet. Ick. Most of the low sugar or sugar free options today have added ingredients I don't tolerate. And I don't have the time, space, incliniation to dry my own.
