Every time I have thought "I'll never have to do X again", I have ended up needing to do it. Usually sooner, rather than later.

It’s a pickled relish. Usually a combo of sweet/hot. If home made it’s whatever you have too much of (or not enough to do anything else with) in the garden.

My last canned batch is green tomatoes, zucchini, onions, and green beans. Vinegar, a little sugar and pepper flakes for some heat.

College chemistry, I pulled an all nighter with my buddy studying for the 8:00 am final exam. Halfway there I stopped, announced it was a waste of time, that I was going to fail, and I should just go back to the dorm and sleep. My buddy convinced me to take the exam, which I think I got B/B+ on, bringing my borderline D/F final grade to a gentleman’s C. I think I celebrated with a beer , but a milkshake sounds good.

I'm not speaking for @__Nathan1968, who makes his from his garden, but the ones I have had used green tomatoes as a base, with ripe bell peppers, lots of onions, cabbage, or any other late season garden veggies. You can pretty much use what you want -- it's your garden. Vinegar, and spices really depend on the person. Usually a little sweet. I have had some spiced, and others were just sugar, salt, and pepper.

Well, all things in context. It did replace 80-100 hour work weeks of the 19th Century.

Not really arbitrary. The Ford company did research and determined it was the most efficient number of hours for them, cutting from a six-day week to five. Enlighten self-interest at its most corporate. The government just followed. Of course, we aren't all building cars now. Productivity has flown through the roof, while the hours haven't changed, we just fill up the other spaces. When I worked in an office, it was so fucking inefficient. Meetings, meetings about meetings, meetings that should have been emails, tons of emails that should have not existed. My actual, real work that affected the company was about 2 hours a day, and the rest was filler. Which is one of the reasons I quit working in corporate offices.

Some legislators are pushing, but you are right, Labor hasn't stepped up behind it.
