Default is always going to be spicy mustard and sauerkraut. My sister makes her own kraut, and it is fantastic. She also makes winekraut, and that can be good too. Kimchi makes a good dog as well.

On Labor day, I usually make up a full Coney sauce. It takes a couple of hours to make, but it is so worth it.

Cream cheese and green chilies worked well. Did banh mi style, with Vietnamese pate, Vietnamese pickled carrots, and daikon, fresh cilantro and Thai basil.

The most excessive dogs I ever made were for my daughter's softball team. Footling dogs with homemade macaroni and cheese, topped with pulled pork, with a Kansas City BBQ if they wanted to top it further. Ridiculous, and amazing.

I guess I like hot dogging.

I don't like the frozen corn dogs, but a fresh made one is amazing, dipped in the batter and fried fresh. But our local minor league team made them with foot longs, and it was too much, too oily.

Hot Dog sauce is a meat sauce, similar to Coney Island sauce, but (in my opinion, never humble) not near as flavorful. I love a good Coney.

If you ever go to DC, you need to go to Ben's Chili Bowl. It is a DC monument, and they make a "Half Smoke," -- a pork and beef hot dog topped with their chili sauce, mustard, and fresh cut onions. Outstanding.

Who the fuck can sleep if it's 82?

There was a situation in... Colorado, I think? a few years ago. The power company had a deal where if you had a smart thermostat (and as a long time IT geek, the idea of having anything in my home connected to the Internet for control is just fucking terrifying, but I digress) you could sign up for a discount every month and the power company could adjust your thermostat depending on the local power load needs. So during the hottest days of the year, they set thousands of homes too the high 80s. And locked them out of adjusting it. It was precisely what their customers signed up for, but I am not sure that they understood what it meant.
