Someone on my team was fired today. For the last few weeks, I have been worried I would get fired because of corporate politics… but on Friday, I was assured by someone way up in the company all was good. I had a wonderful, relaxed weekend. Then today’s news…

Just feels like we are getting jerked around for someone’s personal goals for glory. Doesn’t feel good or encouraging.

I’ll be okay… even though I am enjoying my favorite beverage…

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’ve been there and it’s stressful beyond words.

I don’t know if it helps, but speaking from someone who has been on the doing the lay offs or firing side it’s a very fine line to walk. I can say that in terms off lay offs, I was very proactively transparent about the economic challenges with my team even before I knew there would be anyone let go. I also wouldn’t have assured anyone all was good if asked.

In terms of firing, it was always due to performance with ample warning and opportunities to avoid that outcome. And if someone else asked, I absolutely would have told them all was good because it was good where they were concerned. It wouldn’t be appropriate to comment about someone getting fired before it happened and afterwards I wouldn’t be able to say much for confidentiality reasons.

If it’s not clear, that’s my way of saying it sounds like you are in a good position and I wouldn’t worry about someone getting fired even if it is a bit unsettling. That’s about them, so keep kicking ass like you always do and it will pass
