The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

It's more like Kinda Know. I know lots. I have never done this thing before like this. It's going to have a learning curve. The good thing is, I don't have a bunch of Irrational Fears about it. I have a stack of books and manuals, and there is a fantastic website with a couple of extremely knowledgeable people on it. And I have several parts cars in case I screw something up and need another part to take a whack at it.

First cuppa coffee here. Happy Sunday!!!
It's a good way to learn stuff. I fixed my leaking hose bib after watching YouTube videos.

There is that set of brakes that I put on a 2001 Camry once upon a time. The ex g/f was sooo happeh cuz I was way cheaper than the garage.

There's a thing out of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance about taking stuff apart in specific order and laying it out that way so it can be reassembled in reverse order without extra parts left over.

My grandfather would tie into almost anything and figure it out along the way. My old cars have books and specific instructions for a lot of it.

I had a friend who was a genius about rebuilding stuff. He did this. When he was repairing a vehicle, his garage looked like an operating room!

One has to be organized. I lost a fastening pin in my last week rebuild and had to order another.

I got a bunch of salvaged LED lights from a couple of jobs and spent last winter ('22-'23) installing them in the barn that I'm converting to an auto shop. I was just in it last weekend, and it's really bright. It's also affordable to use. I built a work table, hung some salvaged cabinets, and built a few shelves high and out of the way. The barn cat hangs out up there. One more work table and I should be about ready for dismantling.

Question (movie and song trivia) in the movie Vanishing Point....The Challenger is racing the Jag and the Jag was put into that creek....right after that one lane bridge is a sharp corner to the left....is that the same bridge and highway corner during the police chase in this song that was in Vanishing Point?

Sounds like a wonderful set-up!

Oh my slight shudder as i read this..
I'm a hard stick. Only way I know to "help" is to pre-load with fluids barring restrictions. Had some labs on Friday. So thankful they agreed to do the urine sample first. Accident averted. Got it on the second try!
A couple of weeks ago I used the expression 'Now we're cookin' with grease'
the Gen Z snorted
the two Millennials looked incredulous

I am Gen X and I had to explain what 'cookin' with grease' meant!

Never having been a parent - I keep putting my foot in my mouth :ROFLMAO:
Gen X here. I use a lot of similes at work. Several will soon put me in the exact same position or be obsolete themselves.

No kids, but auntie to a horde of niblings. Breakfast conversation during my last vacation to visit a brother and his family.
SIL: Hurry up, you'll miss the school bus
Me: *International hand gesture for 'look at the time' as I point to my bare wrist* Yeah, tick-tock, buddy
Buddy: 🤯😃 *looks at me* *head whips around to look at their mom*
SIL: Not that kind of TikTok, buddy
This is how Auntie learned that something called TikTok existed in the world.
And many video clips were shared. Lo and Auntie was both astounded and mildly regretful (after what felt like the 80-bazzillionth video about candy and challenges)

I think food service rules require underwear. Not sure about pants... 😅😅
*Puts panties on head* Hey, it's cold and rainy here - just minimizing heat loss. ;)

Fair warning: I am very much not versed in cars.
That said - I learned to drive stick shift on a 1985 Ford Mustang. It was gray with a reddish interior and had a pop-moonroof. (My brother supplied the year, interior and moonroof - I had forgotten about the moonroof). My dad nicknamed all our cars. This was "The Mouse". It went through more oil than gas by the time we sold it.

Dad took me to the factory where he worked on a weekend. Showed me the classic H and how to get into reverse. Gave me the RPMs for when to shift up. He then directed me around the huge, empty parking lot until he thought I had the basics. I dropped him at the doors and he went inside.

"Drive around until you're comfortable - don't forget to practice reverse. Come find me if you get into trouble. Try not to drop the transmission."

That was an awesome day and a wonderful memory. I loved that car. I miss that car - but not the oil issue.

Was a beautiful day in NJ today. For the first time in three weeks, it got over 60. It’s been a cool and wet spring.

I was kinda needing a nice day and got it.

My wife had a landscaping show this morning which was fun. So a nice early morning.

Then back to the farm where we bucked the logs (cut the logs to length) and split firewood. I am so fascinated by wood grain. Sometimes it’s so unbelievably beautiful.

Black walnut, two red oaks and ash.

Damage from emerald ash borers - they have killed 48 million ash trees in Nj alone. More red oak.

Productive day topped off by Americas funniest home videos. (I know, I am immature).

Back to work my day job tomrrow- I have to work in NYC on Tuesday… 😢

What a great story! Thanks for sharing. I miss stick shifts.

Ahhhh. The smell of burning oil…

Has anyone here ever had burns from a fire?

I was burned in a factory fire back in 1982 (28% of my body) and had very little pain
even though I was in a burn unit of St. Agnes Hospital (Philadelphia)[

I learned to drive a stick in Drivers Ed with the first lesson driving around the pond where they filmed the final shootout in Dirty Harry.

We had to drive the stick in San Francisco, park on hills, stop uphill at lights, the whole shabang.

You became adept at using the parking brake, accelerator and clutch all at once starting on the incline.
