1947 Packard Clipper. I like the coupes. The big one was the fastest car outta Deeetroit after the war. They don't make that stuff any more, many of the sedan parts are interchangeable, and I try not to let little treasure troves pass me by.

I do like the short wheel-base model better, but the long wheel-base model has more snob appeal. According to the articles and since there are only 17 (allegedly) in existence, the possessors of those cars achieve something called Major Collector status. I do have one and have yet to discern the Big Deal, you know?

THat's a damned fine question. Pints or quarts? Mason jars? Yes, it would likely need another leaf in the springs if such loading was commonplace.

That’s why I mostly eat fish in restaurants cos I can’t be arsed to buy it / cook it at home. Never understand why everyone has steak out when it’s like the easiest thing to cook

NICE car, Wat!

For the record, that one is so not my car. That's Google's car. I have one like it which is in need of some love and care and several thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of attention. One long wheel-base and three short ones. Goal is to make a hot rod out of one (maybe all one day) of the short ones and to redo the long one as factory would have it.


I have to get back Out West for good for much to happen quickly.

There's a 4-48 of the 1913 persuasion for sale currently, phaeton body, for a paltry $290K. Some hold that those were the best cars that Packard ever made, hands down.


Keeping a car of that era can be a lot of heartache.

Mine are currently put away. I'll have a bit of juggling to do after I finish determining which one goes first. I'm thinking that the 6 which will become an 8 with a new 5-speed transmission will be first. The body is nearly presentable as is, so it'll mostly be getting the drivetrain in good shape.

Unfortunately he passed away in 2017. His wife sold the car to a collector for $340K

I am the older brother.


In general, to me, Packard prices for a lot of the later models seem to be coming down closer to affordable. THe older owners are dying off and the families are inclined to take what they can get. In buying stuff, I've had a couple of old farts try to hit me with 1995 pricing. I look at them, smile, and say, "Its always a good day not to overpay for Packard parts."
