❌Monthly Song Challenge: Archived🎵

Typical musician, doing it to get the ladies 🤣

I saw Spirit Of The West as well as Great Big Sea numerous times and both put on incredible shows. Anecdotally, during one of the Spirit Of The West shows, John Mann, the lead singer (who sadly has passed away due to illness) stopped in the middle of the song, pointed out two dudes who were about to fight and told them to stop or he would go down there and personally kick them in the balls. The crowd cheered, the two dudes looked like idiots, and, as they say, the show went on.
Also run sound and lights. I have a tee shirt that says, "Hug the sound guy - we never get to dance."

Day 5: A song to cheer a friend up
I guess for coming in late, the choices were limited.
It's okay.
So here's why I did this one.
It's hard not to smile when you hear this.

I'm the Scatman.

Day 6: A song you don’t understand
Ooooo this is going to be a fantastic day! Hope there's a lot of non-english stuff!

Back around the turn of the century, before Spotify, before youtube and apple music and all that stuff, there was KaZaA, Napster, Limewire, DC++. It was a bit of russian roulette; when you set out to download something you might end up with what was on the label, or maybe scat porn, or something... a lot worse. It was the wild west of the internet.

I was looking for Britney songs, as one did in their teens, but stumbled into someones odd music library. There were strange characters, a language I didn't know. I loaded up a bullet, spun the chamber, and pulled the trigger.

What I got was, as I found out later, the debut album of Korean pop-diva BoA (Beat of Angel). It was incredible, transformative, it made me realize that one does not need to understand the lyrics to understand their meaning, to share that feeling, the emotions of music.

It's been two and a half decades, and BoA has become known as the Queen of K-pop. Her style has matured, she's experimented with mixing genres, and her music has become... darker.

BoA - Better
