What’s your most controversial opinion?

I agree. But the company is doing what it thinks the people/society want.
And the people in charge control what everyone thinks people want.
Until that changes. And we elect tattooed, pierced leaders, with pink, purple or blue hair.
Then it will remain the same.
Did I tell you how much I love you today?

I think this simplifies it. In certain industries or professions the customer dictates and the business conforms or folds through lack of business. Tattoos and piercings are less of an issue than simply dressing to suit. It’s like wearing a uniform. In places the more outlandish the better for business, perhaps IT or Marketing, but in say law it just doesn’t work and ignores the commercial reality.

I personally have no qualms about anyone being themselves but not at my expense! Old fashioned that might be but it’s what drives commerce…..rightly or wrongly. It’s horses for courses.

I think the idea of “old fashioned@ is changing … as it should. We are not the same world we were when these ideas came to being.

You can look professional all you want and still be a horrible human being.
You can also dress professionally and be a decent human being, just saying.

It amazes me that people don't want to at least try to look their best in their work environment, notwithstanding the dress code for the business. It has never bothered me that I need to dress smart for work, I think we have a lot more leeway than the guys and a lot more options. I came into my job knowing what was required and looked forward to it, seeing powerful women dressed for the workplace on TV and in the news made me want to as well, sounds a bit lame but I am here and am a part of it and I love what I do. Fridays we can do jeans and tees, trainers and leather jackets and not tie our hair up, if we want to. My partner works in a different environment to me and has way more tattoos than me and dresses casual everyday unless they have client meetings, which then means she grumbles and groans and dresses for that.

This is something I struggle with … but.. should there be a limit to topics in comedy in the name of freedom of expression?

This comes up because recently a comedy trio (must note it’s a group of young white men).. released a tshirt for their comedy tour.. making light of a serial killer who killed an unnamed amount of indigenous women … and they had massive backlash from the indigenous community saying it is disrespectful.

I’m usually of the mind that comedy is inherently supposed to push boundaries … sometimes the most fucked up shit is the most funny.. but is there a limit? Should there be?

i work in a workplace where since COVID the dress code has slipped. I still wear corporate wear when I go into the office 3 days a week (most weeks) because that’s how I like to project myself and also, it makes me feel good about myself when I look nice and .. I have those clothes so I want to wear them? Some of my colleagues have gone back to doing the same, some are still in jeans and t shirts, some have completely forgotten they’re not at home and rock up in shorts and tank top and thongs (flip flops). The latter option, if you ask me is just not okay and I absolutely judge those lazy fuckers for their lack of social decorum and effort and appropriateness. 🤪🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t care about hair colour tattoos or piercings etc, I have all those things too. I am all for quirky and individuality and flare. But for fucks sake just make an effort to tidy your shit up and practice giving a fuck about what you’re projecting, if you can’t actually give a fuck. Have a shower, wash, put on some actual proper shoes, run a rake through that hair.

@StillRain

And while we are at it when did hoodies become okay to be worn at the office? I manage a few lawyers and now require them to have their cameras on with clients and during internal meetings.

One asked why their appearance mattered. Yes. That was an actual question.

What’s wrong with a hoodie?

My plastic surgeon came rolling into my first appointment wearing khakis and a tshirt… did I care? Of course not. Because I know that his ability to do his job and be qualified has nothing to do with what clothes he chooses to put on his body that day.

It matters. Otherwise we’re all just Johnny Depp, the great unwashed. 🤮

Because we have clients that require it. It’s a law firm. I think people picking law firms for defending million dollar cases care to see that their lawyers wear attire that suggests that they are serious.

What colour do you think is khaki? 🤣 @InThe312

I have a fake job so I dress mostly like a hobo and usually do the same in leisure time but time and place for everything. If I am going to an event or traveling I try and fit in. I dont really like sticking out too much and have natural color hair, no piercings and no tattoos which is actually kinda rare these days especially where I live and work.

Nothing. I wear a hoodie hat and sunglasses most places and I think that is where Unabomber nickname started.

Plus I don’t think you’d hitch your wagon to a surgeon who walks in with a hoodie and you know nothing about him and he is about to operate on any vital part of you.

A khaki and a shirt are actually acceptable so comparing it to a hoodie is not the same.

What if your plastic surgeon turned up wearing this t-shirt and khakis?

What if it’s a serious hoodie?

Meh … agree to disagree. I don’t care if he’s wearing a hoodie. He obviously got the degree and the job if he’s performing surgery.
