U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert will not seek the Republican nomination for the special election to replace resigning Congressman Ken Buck, she said Wednesday — putting her focus on winning the GOP primary instead.

Boebert, who now represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, announced at the end of the year that she would run to replace the retiring Buck, a fellow Republican, in the more conservative 4th Congressional District. He had planned to finish out his term but said Tuesday that he now plans to step down next week, on March 22, a move that triggered a June 25 special election to fill his seat for the rest of this year.

It’s set for the same day as the state’s congressional primaries, throwing further uncertainty into what was already a crowded race for the rare open congressional seat. Several candidates were still weighing their options.

“The establishment concocted a swampy backroom deal to try to rig an election I’m winning by 25 points,” Boebert said in a statement, citing a late February poll by Kaplan Strategies in which she led the primary field with 32% support among 558 likely voters.

Oh it absolutely is. This is mainstream Republicans (which Comrade RightGuide now calls "RINOs") getting their payback for being pushed around by truculent blowhards like Boebert.

What's the icing on the cake is that Boebert's plan was so well conceived and executed....and now it is completely in tatters with Buck's unexpected early resignation.

The net result is that mainstream Republicans will gain a solid R and MAGA loses a spotlight hog.

Lauren Boebert achieved a significant victory during an assembly meeting on Friday, emerging as the leading candidate for the Republican nomination to represent Colorado’s 4th Congressional District in the November elections.

With 215 votes, comprising over 40 percent of the total, Boebert outpaced other contenders by a considerable margin, as reported by Colorado Public Radio.

In Colorado, candidates seeking a spot on the Republican primary ballot for a House seat must either secure a minimum of 30 percent of the vote at a congressional district assembly or gather a certain number of valid signatures on a petition, alongside at least 10 percent support at the assembly.

Ted Harvey, a former state Senator also competing for the Republican ballot, fell short with 135 votes, effectively eliminating him from the race. However, Colorado state Representative Richard Holtorf and ex-state Senator Jerry Sonnenberg achieved over 10 percent of the total vote, ensuring their placement on the primary ballot pending the acceptance of their signature petitions.

District 4 has far fewer college-educate voters and far more firearms registered than District 3.

District 3 was R+6 in 2020 to R+0.1 in 2022.

She'll qualify for her Congressional pension next January.
