Sex & Shenanigans

Is vinegar on French fries a thing in your area? I think people in the Midwest were being primed for salt and vinegar chips for years by having vinegar dumped all over our French fries at county and state fairs.
Most of the people I know who like vinegar on their fries/chips are Brits.
They also eat “chip butties” which is essentially a French fry sandwich

@Wand3rlust …please confirm

Why are fish n chips referred still as chips in North America where we refer to fried potatoes as fries and chips as potato chips… ???

Is it because fish n fries doesn’t have the same ring to it?

Not really so much in the PNW, from what I've seen
Around here, fair food, especially fair fries doused in vinegar, was a delicacy that we’d get a couple times a year. When they started making the salt and vinegar chips, it was like being able to get that in a bag. Utz makes a crab seasoning flavored chip, which I’m not a fan of but is probably really popular in Maryland.

Soooo many reasons. This topic is a Wikipedia rabbit hole, but super fun if you like linguistics

My mom loves putting malt or red wine vinegar on fries, fish and tacos. She's from PA.

Fucking facts.
I can’t speak any other languages, so can’t really compare; but I’ve read that English has an exceptionally large vocabulary(a lot to do with it openness in borrowing words from other languages), so the opportunity for puns and wordplay is endless

I much prefer malt vinegar to red wine vinegar on fries. My favorite use of red wine vinegar is to mix it with sumac and then let sweet red onions marinate in it in the fridge, which makes a great topper for burgers, salads, and other things.

Not borrowing words. We kept getting fucking invaded. And then we started invading. And we're lazy. So we couldn't get rid of our old language and just half heartedly embraced the new languages.
