Because I'm a librarian and my job is looking up answers to questions like this, I spent way too much time. Gangsters and steak are a trope. Goodfellas has a scene about cooking steaks, but it doesn't quite match up. Thanks to all for your help! I'm almost positive it's not The Matrix or The Sopranos—if I'm wrong about that, I need to consult a neurologist. Could possibly be True Romance (I doubt it, but I'd happily watch that again to check), or again, Scarface. But my bet is on some lesser gangster movie, something I was finding flaws in and rolling my eyes at.
