Trump is definitely the worst President of all time, but I'm surprised Reagan ranks so low, because I know he was really popular. I guess the cold light of history his flaws are more glaring. He did run up the national debt and flub the AIDS crisis.

I suspect the growing evidence that Trickle Down Economics is a failed economic strategy has a lot to do with Ronnie Ray-guns ranking.

*nods*

Andrew Jackson, Warren Harding and Tricky Dick were all very popular in their own time as well. That has nothing to do with how good of a job they did.

Also, it is worth pointing out that Trump was NEVER as popular as some like to pretend.

That is exactly why he was a one-term president who lost the last election by nearly eight million votes. His lack of popularity comes down to one thing- his policies were garbage, divisive AT BEST, and did a lot of harm to the country that we are STILL trying to recover from.

He did fairly well in his first term, but his second term was a train wreck. Taxing Social Security and selling arms to Iran to fund the Contras illegally. It ended up being one of the most corrupt administrations of the 20th century, and set the standard for criminal activity in government until the Trump regime plumbed new depths.

Its funny that in the late 90s there was a strong push to retcon Ronnie Reagan into a Conservative God (i.e. put him on the 20$ bill and add a face to Mount Rushmore. They renamed National airport after him for fucking the air traffic controller unions.

Nowadays, by Trumpian standards, Reagan was a RINO.

Thanks! I have no memory of Ronald Reagan. I didn't start paying attention to politics until Clinton was President.

He "did fairly well" in terms of getting his agenda enacted, but that agenda was a disaster whose aftereffects are still very much with us. Enormous deficits, "colorblind" domestic policies that devastated the inner cities, union busting, and the mainstreaming of viewpoints that were heretofore (correctly) recognized as extreme - not to mention doing absolutely nothing about AIDS in the crucial early years of the epidemic.
Nowadays, by Trumpian standards, Reagan was a RINO.
Yes and no. Reagan was just as much of a soulless charlatan as Trump, strictly out for himself, and if he were running today, he'd run on the same sort of things Trump is running on. He simply staked out positions as far to the right as were politically tenable at the time - and thanks to him, that window has shifted quite a bit since then.
