Hey! My reaction score is positive!Everybody has been accumulating negative points so far.
Itโs just this week, so far! But I might bring them back at other times.Wait, is it just this week we get points, or have we been keeping score somehow all along?
Iโm highly motivated by gold stars.Itโs just this week, so far! But I might bring them back at other times.
Iโm toying with the idea of a reward for top point earners for the week.
(Itโs ok if you missed today, wouldnโt need to be a perfect score). Weโll see.
You don't listen to much metal or progressive rock, do you? Uncommon time signatures ask moved to those genres.Day 18: A song from the 60s
"Take Five, Live, 1963," Dave Brubeck Quartet
I am skirting the rules slightly by using the 1963 live recording of one of the greatest songs ever written. I will accept my spanking if required. Happily. Five swats would be appropriate...
The name comes from the time signature, in this case 5/4. Dave Brubeck created an entire album out of songs with odd time signatures, and called it Time Out. Nobody does shit like that anymore, in jazz or out.
You forgot to post a song. You don't listen to much metal or progressive rock, do you? Uncommon time signatures ask moved to those genres.
TOOL uses almost nothing but polyrhythms in their songs.
No, I listen to a lot of both. When I said, "no one does shit like this anymore," I meant theming an album specifically around non-standard signatures. You don't listen to much metal or progressive rock, do you? Uncommon time signatures ask moved to those genres.

Ah, I guess I misunderstood the comment. No, I listen to a lot of both. When I said, "no one does shit like this anymore," I meant theming an album specifically around non-standard signatures.

And here I just liked it because it was on Dr. Demento.Day 18 (or, 1 for me! Hello!): A song from the 60s.
Those of you who've seen me before might have an inkling about me having a thing for progressive art, modern art, challenging preconceived notions of what art really is. So, what better song than Napoleon XIV's "They're coming to take me away"?
Samuel's track is probably as avant garde as music could be during the 60's, utilizing multi-layered tracks and manually increasing the speed of the tape, by turning it by hand, to increase his vocal pitch.
Simply incredible. Groundbreaking. Love.
