This isn't really anything new. Most of the right wing talking heads have at some time have let the mask drop and shown the disdain and low regard they have for their audience. Heck, Tucker Carlson used to brag about it on his podcast for media insiders (at least until some of his comments got airtime on more widely promoted shows). Limbaugh never made much of a secret of what he thought of his audience.

For whatever the reason, most of their audience is okay with that. I have my own opinions on this, but really, it doesn't matter why, it just matters that they don't care. As long as they continue to promote the propaganda they are happy. That is the real dynamic I think a lot of people miss.

Putin isn't partisan towards MAGA or any other faction. He's sort of like Trump but with brains; primarily it's self-interest but he sees the benefit in a disrupted political system in the west including the break-up of NATO.

From Putin's perspective, all of western civilization could be deplorable. It's near the end of its lifespan, with all the baggage and strife of a dying civilization. He made the decision to start Russia on its own path, without us. His priorities are establishing fair trade with the nations that want fair trade, and keeping the borders defended against barbarians, mostly from the west.
