As a follow-up - apparently it was racist to ban menthol cigarettes, because it was said - anecdotally that they were preferred by blacks (and possibly also Hmong tribesfolk - yes, they are real). As a corollary, therefore, one might consider it racist to save them from lung cancer, emphysema, asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. One is damned if one does and damned if one does not, which I think is what Catch 22 was all about. When asked if I am a racist (which is extremely rare) I say - no - I am a culturalist. It's behaviour that repels me, not the group that any particular person is of. (I know I should never end a sentence with a preposition)

Requiring voter ID for all voters would be equal treatment for all people, regardless of race. That's why leftists/Democrats freak out about things like voter ID for non white people.

How could one navigate the United States with no visible proof of who they are. As a sidebar, I'm certainly aware of Republican gambits re. gerrymandering (named after Massachusetts Governor Elbridge Gerry, who passed a gerrymandering law in 1812, (when American troops were mischiefing with Canada). They don't fool me, you know.

You said a lot, but the only thing I can conclude from your comments, is that you do not understand the obstacles "republicans" are erecting to voting in America today, nor the obstacles to voting that were erected by racists in America in the past.

The I.D. issue may not seem like a big deal, but when a person is struggling just to stay afloat, the cost and hassle of getting an I.D. (and the cost and hassle each time they move - which for some people is often) can be daunting and prohibitive.

We consider it racist because non-whites are more likely to face obstacles to getting a photo ID, either due to poverty or because they don't have a birth certificate or both. Equally important is the reality that there was and is no need for a voter ID law in the first place, because the practice of voter fraud is vanishingly rare (and every last one of the extremely few examples we're aware of from the last election involved votes for Trump, incidentally).

Its not about not being smart enough to get an ID, its the time, the money the lack of need. There are plenty of places that will not accept military ID. I joined the military at age 18. I had no need for a license between the ages of 18 and 22 give or take. I was nearly 23 when I got out.
