Not familiar with those, but I've seen "ruby cacao" pink chocolate ice cream bars in the states. Haven't tried the Häagen Dazs, but the Magnum Minis were really good!

North Americans have some mystic reverence of manual transmisson cars, which makes people who drive them (i.e. most of the rest of the world) some kind of super-cool woo-woo merchants and/or full-on petrol-heads

I drive a manual, and I can attest that people my own age and younger are quite amazed by this. Sometimes older folks are amazed too, but that's often because I'm a woman my age who drives a stick, not just the fact I drive a stick.
