What Are You Thinking? Continued 14

A different tangent...someone posts a personal add. They are looking for someone. They write 3 paragraphs describing exactly what they seek. Now comes the fun part. Stats. Let's assume 10,000 people read the add...and the sex is equal. You want a male. So that's 5,000. You want a specific age group. Multiply by the frequency available...say 10%. So 500. You want fit. Multiply by frequency...say 50%...so 250. You want a specific education...Multiply by the frequency...say 10%...so now you are at 25. You want someone in the same time zone so they interact with you at your demand...Multiply by the frequency...say 10%. You now have 2.5 guys to choose from. And you haven't got into their height...eye color...weight...hair color. See the issue?
This sounds a lot like the poster complaining about “no hook ups” in a profile or add. Why do you care what people put in their personal ads. If they want to share what/who they like, then let them do what they want.

I said something. I couldn’t take it anymore. It got awkward quiet but then my nail tech looked at me and smiled do it was worth it,

Go Chilly! I'm sure they all appreciated you shutting her up, even if they couldn't say so in front of her. And good to know at least one more person doesn't think they can get away with casual racism anymore.

I struggle with this a lot. Because most times I think people really are t intending to be rude or racist. But other times they are just so damn ignorant!

Yeah, it's always good to match the strength of your reply with the offense, but if you're internally at "lose your shit" levels of offended by what they said, you probably don't need to hold too much back.

I think that really difficult people (to buy for) should give you at least three things that they would like. This way, you could choose one of those things and at least there would be some sort of a surprise.

Amen

I feel cheap giving gift cards. Like having actual present for them, but afraid they won't like it.

The more we label...the smaller our World becomes. I am not sure this is as beneficial to society as a whole as people think.

Let me bring up 2 examples outside of gender and orientation so as not to be perceived as an attack. Because it isn't.

In our 12-step program...they have women 's and closed meetings. I feel it violates our traditions...I only attend open meetings and just let those that feel they need those meetings be. Why could this be an issue? In small communities...there is a limited number of people...recovery...available. if you limit what you can hear...because it cannot be available due to meeting guidelines. What happens if you get cancer...and the only meeting you attend is a closed woman's meeting...and there is no one there that has experienced cancer? But in an open meeting...maybe someone you never talked with has? Does it matter if it is a guy? Or a non-addict?

So...if people want to label themselves...cool. if they want to look for something specific...cool. But there are consequences.

I think that really difficult people (to buy for) should give you at least three things that they would like. This way, you could choose one of those things and at least there would be some sort of a surprise.
I think that they should give you three suggestions, or allow you unfettered access to their internet search history.
