We need to bring back the death sentence for certain criminal cases. "Death Row" is a joke. The possibility of a real death sentence is the best detriment to violent crime.

Strongly disagree. The notion of capital punishment centers around the idea that the fear of death will deter capital crimes, and that simply isn't the case. Drug lords and the like are not afraid to die. They live in a primal nihilistic world: Kill or be killed. The death penalty doesn't mean anything unless the condemned is afraid to die.

But most state and federal prisons are actually run by private corporations so keeping our jails full is "good for business". Ugh. So backwards. We should be trying to need fewer jails, not more.

That's another issue that really needs to be discussed that no one wants to talk about.

I'd have said making access to guns harder would have more effect.

No comprehensive gun control legislation will ever pass. Because the gun rights supporters literally believe their lives are threatened almost every minute of the day, and they also think they're persecuted as (mostly) White Christian Americans. The stupidest belief I have ever heard is the idea that American Christians are persecuted. Gun rights supporters will burn America to the ground before they give one inch.

Gun control legislation isn't really going to work in America anyway. You can stop the legal sale of guns in this country all day long, but what do you do about the roughly 400 million guns that are already in America? Gun buybacks? Not going to work. Confiscation? You try to confiscate just one weapon and you'll have a civil war that will never end.

Reasonable solutions will not work because we do not live in reasonable times.

Well, we managed to remove the vast majority of legally held handguns over here. And we never legalised the ownership of semi automatic assault rifles on the first place.

I also never said you'd manage to get any gun controls over there. I said making access to weapons more difficult would have more of an effect on the rates of violent crime than a more liberally used death penalty

I've got several. Let's see though, one of the least controversial might be:

Keeping psychopaths locked up for 30-50 years is a HUGE waste of law abiding citizens' tax dollars. But most state and federal prisons are actually run by private corporations so keeping our jails full is "good for business". Ugh. So backwards. We should be trying to need fewer jails, not more.

Whilst on the face of it the death penalty is a valid one. You can't take it back and so is it better that 1 innocent person dies rather than do away with it. If that is the case then are you willing to be that innocent person who dies due a mistrial? Are you willing to push the button / pull the lever to execute the person?
So then if you know you are going to get the death penalty then why would you let yourself get arrested and how many cops are going to be killed / injured in the pursuit?

And if you are going to do then take them out the back and pop one in head no dicking about with x years on death row , plus the one in the head leaves a goodly number of organs to be harvested - if we have a death penalty then lets go the whole way and not pussy foot around.

Responding to violence with more violence is never the solution. Ever.

What is the best solution for dealing with a woman you describe? Turn and walk away. Give her the rope and let her hang herself. Violence only reduces you to her level. But then...I guess that is what kind of person you are.
