Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

Jordan accepts the results of the latest secret conference vote. He lost. He will not run again

See how politics work ll74?

Next they will confront the 8 traitors and pull them into step. Then they will nominate McCarthy. He will win by all Republican votes. Unanimously. New rules will be established...and there will never be another bipartisan piece of legislation ever again

So...back to 17 days ago...how has this benefited Democrats?

You’re Dribbling

I know how politics work.

You misrepresented what Gaetz said and your misrepresented what I said. You're a great politician.

You still think them voting for McCarthy wouldve benefited Democrats in some way, which is absolutely hilarious no matter how many times you say it.

And you missed how this entire thing has absolutely benefited Democrats.

But please, continue to tell me how things are.....I'm really interested 👍
I think voting "present" would have sent a better message. What we did...IS WE VOTED IN AGREEMENT WITH 8 TRAITORS.

If you understand politics so well...why do you struggle so much?

What is the first thing EVERY House votes on? Done right after the Speaker is elected. What is the first piece of business done with every new chamber? They vote to accept the Rules.

Which comes first? The vote for Speaker? Or the adoption of Rules?

So is a Speaker is vacated...an Acting Speaker Pro Tempore is installed. They have limited powers. They can not bring anything to the Floor fir a vote. That means...Rules can't be changed without a Speaker.

Starting to see the Constitutional issue?

No...I took what he said...and extrapolated the next move. It comes from having people I know inside working through this
Of course it does.

The YouGov poll I posted earlier is like a campaign ad for every Democrat running for office. But sure......this doesn't help Democrats 👍

Meanwhile, this is the Republican party right now, eating itself.

the only thing that's come out of this is it's making mccarthy look more like 'business as usual' compared to jordan. how fucked up is that, given mccarthy's lack of integrity after jan 6th?

is mchenry a more likely option? possibly, at least till january when this could all happen again.
Cheney would be acceptable to democrats, but not to most republicans. Similarly, there are a couple of other names dems have floated but, again, this is the republicans' to own. If they don't see that a house united behind one speaker who can work with both sides to do the work for the people of America is the strongest, best way forward, it is what it is.

Republicans need to find an outsider to come in and take over this circle jerk. Someone who isn’t seeking elected office and would be willing to work in the interest of the American people until Jan 2025. Where’s Colin Powell when you need him?

Not the My Pillow guy I hope.

Funny thing, I was thinking just the same thing yesterday--if Covid hadn't gotten Colin Powel.

The Republicans will never work with Democrats again. Ever. Jeffries destroyed any future bipartisan legislation.
They accuse us of hating America almost every day, they routinely vilify the president and his family, they primary out any of their own members who don't hate Democrats quite as much as they do...and you think they would have been willing to reach across the aisle if our side had voted to save their speaker - whom most of them never really liked - from their own members? Dribble, exactly what rock have you been living under since at least the early '90s? Seriously, you'd have to go back to the pre-Gingrich era for your implied claim here to have even a little bit of plausibility.

And for the nine millionth time, the Dems did offer to help McCarthy. He wouldn't offer anything whatsoever in return. That's on him.

No more Gymmie? Who is next?
Tom Emmer reportedly wants to be the next one to be ritually humiliated. More power to him.

Jim Jordan: “Look, there’s been multiple rounds of votes for speaker before. We all know that. I just know that we need to get a speaker as soon as possible so we can get to work for the American people.”

Haha! It’s been 10 months since McCarthy won the speakership. Here Jordan spins that embarrassing, humiliating, unprecedented voting event into accepted precedent for House Republicans selecting a leader.

Well, you could argue now that it is. Traditionally it's been the Democrats who couldn't get all their ducks in a row, where a few lefties could spoil the party by refusing to get behind someone who doesn't check every box...but they were never this bad. Now twice in a row, the Republicans are. Really, it's a sign that the deplorables have finally pushed the envelope too far. At least since Reagan, the moderate Republicans have usually accepted that they were outvoted and gotten in line with the party leadership, and it's been enormously beneficial to the party. Now that is no longer happening.

I mean, at some point you have to stand up for what values you say you have- having the chamber held hostage by Venmo and friends isn’t exactly governing.

Moderate Republican is an oxymoron

Beneficial to the party? Getting in line with the leadership? Where did that get the moderate Republicans? Conservative and evangelical crazies took over and landed the nation in the present disaster. The conservatives were able to do that because the moderates and liberals in the GOP appeased them, just like congressional Democrats appease congressional Republicans. In politics, there are those who always chase "public opinion" and thus go wherever the wind blows in the name of their "career", and those that stand firm on their policies and seek to convince other people that these policies are correct. Only the latter will leave a good legacy.

Biden is also a disaster. Real left-wing people stand firmly against him, his reactionary policies and his big business party.
