You never learn. The Republicans will never work with Democrats again. Ever. Jeffries destroyed any future bipartisan legislation. So that means the votes must come from in conference. If every other member was on board...what choice do they have? This is the way out. There is no way those voting against Jordan will flip for the same reason to begin with. McCarthy will be re-instated with a unanimous Republican vote

If you understand politics so well...why do you struggle so much?
What is the first thing EVERY House votes on? Done right after the Speaker is elected. What is the first piece of business done with every new chamber? They vote to accept the Rules.
Which comes first? The vote for Speaker? Or the adoption of Rules?
So is a Speaker is vacated...an Acting Speaker Pro Tempore is installed. They have limited powers. They can not bring anything to the Floor fir a vote. That means...Rules can't be changed without a Speaker.
Starting to see the Constitutional issue?

Cheney would be acceptable to democrats, but not to most republicans. Similarly, there are a couple of other names dems have floated but, again, this is the republicans' to own. If they don't see that a house united behind one speaker who can work with both sides to do the work for the people of America is the strongest, best way forward, it is what it is.
